What was the Royal Charter of 1600?

The Royal Charter of 1600 was a royal order issued by Queen Elizabeth that incorporated and established the East India Company. The charter was issued in order to counter competition from the Dutch East India Company. Its main purpose was to facilitate trade in Asia and Africa. Eventually, conquest would be an additional purpose as well.
