Noted Scientist Vasant Gowariker is known as the Father of the Indian Monsoon Model. He had made valuable contributions in the fields of space research, weather forecasting and the popularisation of science. He was also associated with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, besides having served as the Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister and the secretary of the Department of Science and Technology among other important responsibilities.
