Pratibha Devisingh Patil took oath as India’s first woman President on July 25, 2007. She is the 12th President of India. She is the first woman and the first Maharashtrian to hold this post. Patil was a member of the Indian National Congress, was nominated by the ruling United Progressive Alliance and Indian Left. She was the first woman Governor of Rajasthan.
