The Academic Association was started by Henry Louis Vivian Derozi – a firebrand teacher of Hindu College – along with his radical band of students known as the Young Bengal.
It was established in 1828, arranging discussions on subjects such as:
- Free will
- Free ordination
- Fate
- Faith
- The sacredness of truth
- The high duty of cultivating virtue,
- The meanness of vice
- The nobility of patriotism
