Who were the first female doctors in India?

Anandibai Gopalrao Joshi along with Kadambini Ganguly, was one of the first female doctors of India. She was the first woman from the erstwhile Bombay presidency of India to study and graduate with a two-year degree in western medicine in the United States.

She gave birth to a boy at the age of fourteen – having been married at the age of nine. The boy died due to the lack of medical care. This was the turning point for Anandibai that spurred her on to become a physician.
