How to Draw a Lantern for Kids?

The choices for kids are ample when asked to sketch the picture of lanterns. On the basis of celebration, there are Diwali lanterns, Chinese lanterns, Ramadan lanterns, jack-o’-lanterns etc. Kids can set any of these festivals as the background of their drawing and sketch the lanterns matching the vibes. Apart from these, they can either sketch a traditional kerosene lantern, flying lanterns, or floating lanterns. Here, we have provided step-by-step instructions for drawing a traditional kerosene lantern. 

• To form the lid part of the lantern, let us sketch a small rectangular figure in the top middle part of the paper. Connecting the top part of the rectangle, draw a triangular figure. Make sure that the size of the triangle is bigger than that of the rectangular bottom part of the lid. 
• Below the lid part, sketch another rectangle. 
• From the base of the rectangle sketched in the previous step, draw two vertical parallel lines and connect them using a horizontal straight line to form the body of the lantern. 
• Add a vertical rectangular figure inside the body and sketch out the flames.
• To make it appear real, kids can layer the picture with the application of different shading techniques. 
• Below the main body sketched in the previous step, draw a trapezoid to form the kerosene tank of the lantern. 
• Using simple curves and straight lines, complete the base part of the lantern. 
• After the completion of the main parts, ask kids to add details. Sketch two identical handles in the left and right parts of the lantern’s body and add a lever to adjust the flames. 
• As the final step of the drawing process, fill the picture with colours. Kids can choose any of the dark colours to fill the body of the kerosene lantern.
