NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is a written medical entrance test organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It’s for students who want to get into MBBS, BDS, or AYUSH courses in India. NEET used to be called AIPMT (All India Pre-Medical Test) in the past. Every year, a large number of students take the NEET exam to qualify for admission to recognized medical colleges across the country. NTA uses the scores from the NEET-UG 2024 exam to create a list of the best-performing students. About 1.75 lakh students will be able to get into medical colleges through NEET.
Before you start preparing for NEET 2024, it’s important to understand the basics, like ‘what is NEET 2024 exam?’, expected NEET 2024 exam date, paper pattern of NEET 2024, NEET form date 2024, NEET syllabus 2024, eligibility criteria for NEET 2024, NEET 2024 registration etc. This article has all the information you need to know.
What is the purpose of NEET exam?
The NEET exam aims to provide a single, national-level entrance test for students who wish to pursue medical programs like MBBS, BDS, nursing, and AYUSH courses in India. NTA has been organizing NEET (UG) since 2019 with approval from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Education, as directed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
A successful performance in NEET allows students to secure seats in both private and government medical institutes across India. NEET has replaced multiple state-level and national-level entrance tests, including AIIMS and JIPMER, following the “One Nation One Test” policy, streamlining the admissions process for medical programs.

NEET 2024 Answer keys
The official authorities typically release the NEET 2024 answer keys on their official website about 2-3 weeks after the exams have taken place. However, students can get an early idea of their performance by referring to unofficial websites for the answer keys. Additionally, OMR response sheets will be made available.
Initially, a provisional set of answer keys is published for students to review. They have the option to challenge the answer keys if they find any discrepancies. These challenges are then assessed by NTA officials, and if found to be accurate, corrections are made accordingly. After making corrections, a final set of answer keys is released, which is considered the definitive set of answers.
How to Calculate NEET 2024 Score?
Here’s a simplified version of the steps to calculate your NEET score:
-
- First, compare your answers in the OMR sheet with the official answer keys when they are released.
- Make sure the question paper code on both the OMR sheet and answer key matches. You can find the code at the top of both pages.
- Calculate your NEET score by adding 4 marks for each correct answer and keeping track of incorrect answers.
- If you marked more than one answer for a single question, consider it as incorrect and assign zero marks to it.
Here is the marking scheme for reference –
Response to the question |
Marks |
Correct answer |
+4 marks |
Incorrect answer |
-1 mark |
Question unanswered |
0 mark |
Question with more than one option marked as answer |
0 mark |
Use this formula to find your NEET exam score –
NEET 2024 Score = [{4 * Number of correct responses} – {1 * Number of incorrect responses}]
