The Canara bank has laid down the eligibility criteria for aspirants who wish to apply for the Specialist officer examination. Candidates should ensure that they fulfil the eligibility requirements in terms of age, nationality or citizenship, educational qualification and post qualification work experience.  Applicants who do not meet the eligibility criteria will not be considered for the Specialist officer position.

Canara Bank Specialist Officer (SO) Exam Pattern 2023

The Canara bank selects candidates for the post of Specialist officer posts through:

• Shortlisting or Online Test
• Group Discussion
• Interview 

If the number of applications received for individual posts are less, the candidates are first shortlisted based on the eligibility criteria, which is followed by GD and/or interview.

In case the selection is done through an online test, the pattern for the examination is given in the table below:

Points to Remember: Online Test for the Post of Canara Bank Specialist Officer

• There is negative marking for every wrong answer.
• There is sectional and total cut-off. Candidates should clear both in order to qualify for the next phase of the examination.
• The Group Discussion (GD) and interview carry 100 marks each.
• For group discussion and interview, candidates must get minimum qualifying marks of 55 percent (or 50 percent for SC/ST/OBC/PWBD candidates).

The selection for the Specialist officer post will be based on the candidate’s position in the respective category rank list for that post.  On the basis of performance in the online test, group discussion, and interview, the final rank lists will be prepared, with the following weightage:

Aspirants are allowed to apply for only one Specialist officer post. Candidates should ensure that they  furnish correct information in the online application form and pay the application fee. Applications that are submitted without paying the fee will not be processed and will be deemed incomplete.

• After completing the registration, a new registration number will be generated. Candidates should use the registration number and password to login again and complete the online application form.
• Candidates should fill in all the necessary information and upload their photograph and signature as per the specifications given in the official notification. Aspirants should spell their name, father’s and/or husband’s name correctly in the online application form. If candidates have changed  their name, they should produce the Gazette Notification or Marriage Certificate. 
• Candidates should pay the application fee as mentioned in the official notification released by the bank. Aspirants should ensure that the transaction is successfully completed.
• Applicants should use the ‘Save and Next’ option to verify the information before submitting the application. No requests related to making changes in the application form will be entertained by the bank.
• After submitting the  application and paying the fees online, candidates should take a printout of the online application form. Candidates will receive an email and SMS once they successfully complete the registration process. They should also note down the registration number and password for future reference.

They should ensure that they have a valid email ID and mobile number before applying for the exam. 6. Applicants should login using their registration number and password.
7. Candidates should download the admit card and take a printout.

The admit card contains information about the exam, including the venue, date, and time. Applicants should carry their call letters to the exam venue with a passport-size photo duly pasted on it. They must carry the original valid photo ID proof along with its copy, a ball-point pen and ink stamp pad to the exam venue. 

The name on the candidate’s admit card must exactly match the name on their photo ID. Any candidate who has changed his/her name must present a Gazette notice, a marriage certificate, or an affidavit.

Candidates can select exam centres as per their preference while filling out the application form.
