Exam Pattern for the Post of Canara Bank Specialist Officer 

The scheme of exam for the post of Canara bank Specialist Officer (SO) comprises shortlisting or online test, group discussion (GD) and interview. Based on the number of applications received, the bank determines whether to directly shortlist candidates  for GD or to conduct an online test. The exam pattern of the online test is given in the table below.

After conducting the online test, applicants are shortlisted for GD and interview. The Group Discussion (GD) and interview carry 100 marks each. These applicants must score minimum qualifying marks of 55 percent (or 50 percent for SC/ST/OBC/PWBD candidates) in group discussion and interview.

Points to Remember: Canara Bank SO Exam Pattern

  • There is a negative marking in the online test. 0.25 marks of the marks allotted to the question is deducted for every wrong answer.
  • In order to pass the online test, applicants have to clear the sectional and overall cut-off determined by the bank.
  • Separate admit cards are released for the online test and the interview including GD. 
  • If there is a tie between two or more candidates, then the merit order is determined as per the date of birth of the applicant. Candidates who are older will be given preference over younger candidates.
  • Applicants should be aware that the weightage given to each exam phase is used to determine the final candidate rank list.

  • Applicants have to produce the originals and self-attested copies of the following documents or certificates at the time of the interview:
    • Printout of the online application form
    • Printout of Group Discussion and Interview Call Letter
    • Photo Identity proof: Ration cards and learner’s licence are not accepted as valid ID proofs. Applicants who have changed their name should produce an affidavit, Gazette notification or marriage certificate.

      • Passport

      • Bank Passbook with photograph
      • Photo identity proof  issued by a Gazetted Officer on official letterhead
      • Photo identity proof issued by a People’s Representative on official letterhead along with  photograph

      • Aadhar card or E-Aadhar Card with a photograph
      • Employee ID
      • Bar Council Identity card with photograph
    • Proof of Date of Birth along with proof of certificate for applicable age relaxation (if applicable)
    • Certificates and Marksheets of SSC / SSLC / X / 10+2 / PUC /Intermediate, Graduation, Post Graduation etc.
    • Caste Certificate in case of SC/ST/OBC category candidates
    • Disability Certificate in case of PWBD candidates, issued by competent authority. It should be submitted in the prescribed format given in the official notification.
    • EWS candidates should submit an Income and Asset Certificate issued by any one of the Competent Authorities as notified by the Government of India in the prescribed format.
    • Individuals who qualify for an age relaxation under the category “Persons affected by the 1984 Riots” must present a certificate from the District Magistrate stating that they qualify for relief under the Rehabilitation Package for 1984 Riot Affected Persons approved by the Government of India.
    • An Ex-serviceman candidate has to produce a copy of the Service or Discharge Book along with a pension payment order and documentary proof of rank last / presently held (substantive as well as acting) at the time of interview. 
    • Candidates serving in Government or quasi Govt offices or Public Sector Undertakings should produce a “No Objection Certificate” from their employer at the time of interview, in the absence of which their candidature will not be considered.
    • Experience Certificate (if applicable)
    • Other relevant documents (if applicable and wherever necessary) in support of candidature of the applicant.
  • After the completion of the GD and interview, the final results of the Canara Bank Specialist Officer (SO) examination are published on its official website.
  • The bank reserves the right to conduct an additional selection procedure for a certain date, session, venue, centre, or group of candidates, in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
  • If at any stage of the recruitment process, the bank finds out that candidates have provided incorrect information to the bank or have not provided relevant documents to prove their eligibility, then their candidature will be cancelled. If such candidates have been appointed, they will be immediately removed  from the services of the Bank.
