Canara Bank Specialist Officer (SO) Exam Eligibility Criteria 2023

Aspirants who wish to apply for the Specialist officer exam conducted by the Canara bank must go through the eligibility criteria given in the official notification. As per the notification released by the Canara bank in 2023, candidates are allowed to  apply for only one Specialist officer post. Therefore, candidates should be very careful when applying for the SO exam. They should go through the eligibility criteria such as age, nationality, educational qualification, post qualification work experience etc. given in the official notification before applying for the exam.

A candidate must be either: 
1 A Citizen of India or  
2 A subject of Nepal or 
3 A subject of Bhutan or 
4 A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of  permanently settling in India or  
5 A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African  countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and  Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently  settling in India 
A certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India must be produced by applicants who fall under categories 2, 3, 4, and 5. Scheme of the Canara Bank Specialist Officer (SO) Exam 2023

The selection process for the Specialist officer post primarily comprises shortlisting or online test, Group Discussion and  Interview. To determine whether to conduct an online test or shortlist candidates for the GD and interview based on the eligibility criteria depends on the number of applications received for each post. If very few candidates apply for the exam, then bank shortlists applicants based on the eligibility requirements, otherwise an online exam is held by the bank throughout the country.

Online Test for the Canara Bank Specialist Officer Post

The online test comprises questions on English, latest developments in the banking industry and professional knowledge (based on the post for which the candidate has applied). The online test is for a duration of 2 hours. There is negative marking for wrong answers. The exam pattern for the online test and other details are given in the table below.

Group Discussion and Interview for the Canara Bank Specialist Officer Post

The Group Discussion (GD) and interview carry 100 marks each. The candidates who pass the online test are eligible for the GD and the interview. Candidates have to clear the sectional cut-off and the overall cut-off to pass the online exam. The shortlisted applicants must score  minimum qualifying marks of 55 percent (or 50 percent for SC/ST/OBC/PWBD candidates) in group discussion and interview.

Aspirants should go through the eligibility criteria before applying for the SO exam. Candidates can follow the steps given below to apply for the Specialist Officer exam.

  • Visit the official website of the Canara bank.
  • Click on the “Career” tab given on the homepage.
  • Select the ‘Recruitment’ tab, which is displayed on the new page. 
  • Now candidates should click on the “Recruitment Project – (Year) – Specialist Officers” link.
  • A new page will appear. Candidates should select ‘Click here to apply online” link.
  • Candidates should register themselves by selecting the ‘Click here for new registration’ link. 
  • Candidates should complete the registration process by filling in the necessary information. A registration number will be generated by the system once registration is completed. 
  • Candidates should login again using the registration number and password and complete the online application form.
  • Applicants should upload their photograph and signature as per the specifications given in the official notification released by the Canara bank. 
  • Candidates should pay the application fee after filling out the online application form.
  • After submitting the application form, candidates should take a printout of the form for future reference.

  • Applicants must make sure they have a valid email address and mobile number before beginning the registration process.
  • Candidates must correctly spell their name, father’s name, and husband’s name on the online application. They must present either a marriage certificate or a gazette notice if they have changed their name.
  • Applicants should verify the information before submitting the online application form.
  • The bank will not consider any requests pertaining to modifying the online application form.
  • After successfully completing the registration process, candidates will receive an email and SMS. They should write down the registration number and password for future reference.
  • The scanned photograph and signature should be clear and must meet the specifications given in the ‘Guidelines for Scanning and Upload of  Photograph and Signature’ in the official notification. 
  • Applicants who fail to pay the application fee will not be considered for the SO post.

  • A new page will be displayed on the screen. Candidates should select “Click here to download Call Letter”.
  • Applicants should login using their registration number and password.
  • Candidates should download the admit card and take a printout.

Points to Remember: Canara Bank SO Admit Card

  • Candidates should be careful to arrive at the exam centre at the reporting time specified on the admit card.
  • Applicants must carry their call letters to the exam centre with a passport-size photo duly pasted on it. 
  • Candidates should bring their original valid photo ID proof along with its copy, a ball-point pen and ink stamp pad to the exam venue.
  • Aspirants are not allowed to carry books, cell phones, written notes, calculators or other electronic devices to the exam venue.
  • The name on the candidate’s admit card must exactly match the name on their photo ID. Any candidate who has changed their name must present a Gazette notice, a marriage certificate, or an affidavit.
  • Ration cards and learner’s licence are not considered as valid ID proofs for the exam. For the Canara Bank Specialist Officer Exam, the following photo IDs are acceptable:
