The UPSC allows Assamese as one of the optional literature subjects for the Civil Services Exam. Assamese is one of the 22 official languages of India included in the eighth schedule of the Constitution of India. Assamese has a rich literature and illustrious history of translations, original works and philosophy.
Being a highly specialised subject, candidates who have studied Assamese as a part of their curriculum or have learnt Assamese as their mother tongue should take up this optional. Assamese Literature syllabus for UPSC
