One Future Alliance [UPSC Notes]

India launched the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) partnership to enable countries, especially low and middle-income brackets, to learn from its experiences in harnessing technology to improve governance, and for social, economic, digital and sustainable development. In connection to the DPI, India also mooted the creation of the ‘One Future Alliance’. In this article, we explain the concept of the ‘One Future Alliance’ and its significance. This topic is relevant for multiple sections under the UPSC syllabus such as IR, communications, cyber-security, etc.

One Future Alliance

• It is an alliance of like-minded countries that would work together and take the current open-source, customizable stacks that are available and built for the future and for the rest of the world. At the heart of the alliance is the power of technology to improve governance and people’s lives.
  • In other words, the One Future Alliance’ is a voluntary initiative that aims to bring together all countries and stakeholders to synergize, shape, architect and design the future of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) that could be used by all countries.
  • The alliance will enable countries, especially from low and middle-income brackets, to learn from their experiences in harnessing technology to improve governance, and for social, economic, digital and sustainable development.
  • The alliance will help the countries to take not only the current open-source customisable stacks that are available and built but also to customize and innovate for the future for themselves and the rest of the world.
• Separate MoUs were signed by India with Armenia, Sierra Leone and Suriname on sharing the successful digital solutions that have been implemented at the population scale for digital transformation.
• The three priority areas selected for the Digital Economy Working Group are 
  • Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI)
  • Cybersecurity and 
  • Digital Skilling.
• The event included a global exhibition to give visitors, especially foreign delegates, an idea of some of the achievements of the Digital India plan, such as Aadhar, UPI, DigiLocker and eGov.
• One Future Alliance pinpoints that technology is continuously changing and many countries have understood not only the power of Artificial Intelligence but also of languages.
