UPSC 2015: List of Toppers

A look at the UPSC toppers’ list every year presents a mixed bag of people. Some of them would have cracked the exam in their first attempt itself while others would have reached there in the third or fourth take. Some of them would be from India’s metros while others may be from the rural hinterland. Some of them would have studied at the country’s top institutes while some others might have struggled to get an education in some obscure college. A look at the toppers’ profiles also reveals how varied they are in language and region. This article gives you the list of top 20 toppers of the UPSC civil services 2015. (The results were declared in 2016).

In 2015, 1078 candidates found their way into the final rank list of the UPSC civil services. This number includes 499 from the general category, 314 from the OBC, 176 from the SC and 89 from the ST categories.

The first rank-holder is Tina Dabi, all of 22 and a graduate in political science from Delhi’s Lady Shri Ram College. What makes Delhiite Dabi’s success special is that this was her very first attempt in the IAS Exam. Dabi is followed by Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan who bagged the second rank. Khan, 23 belongs to Anantnag, Jammu & Kashmir and was undergoing training at the Indian Railways Institute of Transport and Management, Lucknow. In his previous attempt which was also his first attempt, he had secured an AIR of 560.

Another Delhiite in the top ranks is Jasmeet Singh Sandhu who secured the third rank. Sandhu is an engineering graduate from IIT-Roorkee. This 28-year-old had been working as an Assistant Commissioner in the Indian Revenue Service. In rank 4 is Artika Shukla, a medico by profession. Shukla who is from Varanasi secured this amazing success in her very first attempt.
