1. World Homeopathy Day, 2023

Syllabus – GS2, Health: Issues relating to development and management of Social Sector/Services.

Prelims – World Homeopathy Day, 2023 (10th April).

Context – World Homeopathy Day, 2023 was celebrated with the theme Homeoparivar – Sarvajan Swasthya, One Health, One Family.

Details

  • A one day scientific convention was organised by the Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (CCRH), Ministry of AYUSH on the World Homeopathy Day, 2023. The theme of the convention was Homeoparivar – Sarvajan Swasthya, One Health, One Family.
  • The convention aimed to promote evidence-based homoeopathic treatment for health and wellness of the entire family, capacity building of homoeopathic practitioners to provide homoeopathy as first line of treatment and promote homoeopathy as a treatment of choice in households.
  • The Vice-President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar was the Chief Guest of the event and he said that this event will mark the beginning of a new initiative towards integrated healthcare. He further said that Homoeopathy has played an important role during covid pandemic and India is termed as the “Pharmacy of the World.”
  • The Scientific Convention included sessions on policy aspects in development of homoeopathy, strategic framework for advancement of homoeopathy, research evidences in homoeopathy and expertise and experience in homoeopathic practice.
  • During the event nine CCRH publications were released by the Vice-President of India. Two documentaries and one web-portal ‘CCRH e-library Consortium’ were also released.

World Homoeopathy Day – 10th April.

  • World Homoeopathy Day is celebrated every year on 10th April. This day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Dr Samuel Hahnemann, who is the founder of Homoeopathy.
  • Homoeopathy is a widely used alternative form of medicine that is practised all over the world.

2. Exercise Cope India, 2023

Syllabus – GS3, Various Security forces and agencies and their mandate. 

Prelims – Ex. Cope India, 2023 

Context – Exercise Cope India, 2023 is being held at Air Force Stations Arjan Singh (Panagarh), Kalaikunda (West Bengal)and Agra in Uttar Pradesh.

Details –

  • Exercise Cope India is a bilateral Air Exercise between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and United States Air Force (USAF). The aim of the exercise is to enhance mutual understanding between the two Air Forces and share their best practices.
  • Both sides will field the C-130J and C-17 aircraft, with the USAF operating an MC-130J as well.
  • The Japanese Air Self Defence Force aircrew will also participate in the capacity of observers.
  • Its last edition was held in 2019. The India-US air exercise, which began in 2004, has grown over the years exponentially and will now see paving the way for greater interoperability between India and US as far as the fighters are concerned.

3. State Energy Efficiency Index, 2021-2022

Syllabus – GS3, Energy: Conservation.

Prelims – SEEI, 2021-22

Context – The State Energy Efficiency Index, 2021-22 report was released by the Union Minister Shri R.K. Singh.

Details

  • The State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) is being developed by the BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency), a statutory body under the Ministry of Power in association with the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE). 
  • The index assesses the annual progress of states and UTs in energy efficiency implementation for FY 2020-21 and 2021 -22.
  • SEEI 2021-22:
    • Five states are in the front runner category (>60 points) – Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan and Telangana.
    • Four states are in the achiever category (50-60 points) – Assam, Haryana, Maharashtra and Punjab.
    • Andhra Pradesh and Telangana showed the most improvement since the last index.
  • The SEEI tracks progress in managing states and India’s energy foot-print, driving energy efficiency policies and programmes at the state and local levels.

About BEE-

  • The Government of India set up the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) on 1st March 2002 under the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001
  • The mission of the BEE is to assist in developing policies and strategies with a thrust on self-regulation and market principles, within the overall framework of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 with the primary objective of reducing the energy intensity of the Indian economy.

4. Sagarmala Innovation and Start-up Policy

Syllabus – GS3, Growth & Development: Mobilisation of Resources

Prelims – Sagarmala Innovation and Startup Policy.

Context – Shipping Ministry issued Draft “Sagarmal Innovation and Start-up Policy”.

Details

  • The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) issued draft “Sagarmala Innovation and Start up Policy” with an aim to nurture startups and other entities to co-create the future of India’s growing maritime sector.
  • Draft policy has identified several key areas for the startup to flourish including decarbonization, optimising processes through data, maritime education, multi-modal transportation, manufacturing, alternate/advanced materials, maritime cybersecurity, smart communication and marine electronics.
  • The draft ‘Sagarmala Innovation and Start-up Policy’ pitches for digital portal-based selection of startups to ensure a transparent process.
  • The draft policy calls for the creation of launch pads at ports for carrying out trials, facilitating pilot projects, establishing working space and adopting products and solutions.
  • It is important to provide legal and accountancy backup to startups for IP Patent filing, company registration, annual filings and closures.
  • There is a need to collaborate with national and international stakeholders for mentorship, knowledge sharing and facilitate access to global subject matter experts.
