Prelims: About Malaria

Context:

World Malaria Day was celebrated on 25th April.

World Malaria Day 2022:

  • Every year, the 25th of April is observed as ‘World Malaria Day’. 
  • World Malaria Day 2022 Theme: “Harness innovation to reduce the global malaria disease burden and save lives.”
  • It was aimed to bring greater awareness to the global fight and to recognise the existence of malaria across the globe.

History of World Malaria Day:

  • In 2007, the idea of observing World Malaria Day was seeded from Africa Malaria Day, which is an event that the African government has been observing against the disease since 2001. 
  • The WHO proposed that Africa Malaria day be changed to World Malaria Day at the 60th session of the World Health Assembly.

2. Raisina Dialogue 2022

Syllabus: GS2: International Relations: Groupings & Agreements Involving India and/or Affecting India’s Interests

Prelims: Raisina Dialogue 2022

Context:

India’s Prime Minister inaugurated the seventh edition of the Raisina Dialogue in the presence of chief guest Ursula von der Leyen, the European Union Commission President. 

What is the Raisina Dialogue?

  • The Raisina Dialogue is an annual conference on geopolitics and geoeconomics addressing issues facing the global community. 
  • It takes its name from Raisina Hill, the seat of the Indian government.

Raisina Dialogue 2022:

  • Raisina Dialogue is a joint venture of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the independent think tank Observer Research Foundation (ORF).
  • Theme: The theme is “Terranova: Impassioned, Impatient, and Imperilled”.

The Raisina Dialogue 2022 and its significance

  • Raisina Dialogue 2022 assumes greater significance in the backdrop of the unfolding invasion of Ukraine by Russia. 
  • Since its inception, the Raisina Dialogue has emerged as a leading global conference on international affairs featuring the participation of heads of state, ministers, journalists, academics and researchers.

3. 90th anniversary of Sivagiri Pilgrimage

Syllabus: GS1: Art and Culture: Indian culture will cover the salient aspects of Art Forms, literature and Architecture from ancient to modern times.

Prelims: Sivagiri Pilgrimage

Context: The Prime Minister will participate in the inaugural ceremony of the year-long joint celebrations of the 90th anniversary of the Sivagiri Pilgrimage.

Sivagiri Pilgrimage:

  • Sivagiri pilgrimage, known as Sivagiri Theerthadanam in Malayalam, has distinctive characteristics which make it different from other religious pilgrimages. 
  • Sree Narayana Guru’s followers, Vallabhasseri Govindan Vaidyar and T K Kittan Writer were the main persons behind such a concept and it was duly approved by Narayana Guru.
  • Aim: The aim of the pilgrimage should be the creation of comprehensive knowledge among the people. Hence the goals of the pilgrimage were set as Education, Cleanliness, Devotion to God, Organization, Agriculture, Trade, Handicrafts and Technical Training.
  • The Guru also insisted that the pilgrims wear yellow clothes.
  • First Sivagiri Pilgrimage
    • The first Sivagiri Pilgrimage started from the village of Elavumthitta and pilgrims were P.K. Divakara Panicker, P.K.Kesavan, P.V. Raghavan, M.K. Raghavan, S. Sankunni.  
    • They wore yellow dresses and went all the way to Sivagiri, recited Swaathanthra gadha (Freedom song) which was written by Kumaran Asan.

4. Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari Campaign

Syllabus: GS2: Polity and Governance: Government policies and interventions for development in various sectors and issues arising out of their design and implementation.

Prelims: ‘Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari’ Campaign

Context: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare will inaugurate the ‘Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari’ Campaign.

Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari Campaign:

  • The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare is launching the ‘Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari’ Campaign under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
  • It will organize activities for creating awareness and publicity among a large number of farmers across the country about the schemes and programmes of the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and other allied Ministries.
  • Activities: 
    • A day long Kisan Mela will be organized at all Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs).
    • Felicitation of progressive and innovative farmers, field exhibitions on natural farming for small and medium farmers, women farmers and FPOs, Farmers-Scientist Interaction, etc.
    • Countrywide workshop on crop insurance organized by common service centre (CSC). 
    • A webinar on One District One Product (ODOP). 
    • A National Atma Nirbhar Bharat Conclave.

5. Aspirational District Programme

Syllabus: GS2: Polity and Governance: Government policies and interventions for development in various sectors and issues arising out of their design and implementation.

Prelims: Aspirational District Programme

Context: Under the Union Government’s special outreach programme, the government is reviewing the progress of work being carried out under the Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP).
