Context:
National Handloom Day is celebrated all over the country on 7 August annually.
What is National Handloom Day?
- The government started observing National Handloom Day in 2015 with the vision to give encouragement and policy support to the artisans and craftsmen who are keeping alive the country’s rich tradition of artistry and craftsmanship.Â
- 7 August is the date on which the Swadeshi Movement was launched in 1905 and hence, this date was chosen.
- On this occasion, the PM launched the Bhartiya Vastra evam Shilpa Kosh, which is a craft repository portal of textiles and crafts.
- The portal was developed by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).
- The online repository will serve as a one-of-a-kind knowledge platform that will lay down a framework to weave the past and present status of textiles, clothing and related crafts with a focus on futuristic developments.Â
- The digital portal will also provide access to a vast database including research papers, case studies, dissertations and doctoral theses on textiles, clothing and craft-related areas.Â
- It will serve as a one-stop resource, providing information on new developments and current events relating to textiles and crafts.
2. GSAT-24

Context:
Successfully commissioning of GSAT-24.
Details:
- NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) collaborated with Tata Play and launched the GSAT-24 satellite in June 2022.
- Tata Play commenced the use of this satellite, now in its orbital position, on 7 August 2023.
- Currently, Tata Play has 600 channels. With the inclusion of the ISRO satellite, it would be able to transmit 900 channels benefitting the general public.
- The increased bandwidth, after the inclusion of GSAT-24, will enable Tata Play to provide its users with an even sharper picture and sound quality.
- The GSAT-24 is a 24-Ku band communication satellite launched by the Government of India only to cater to the requirement of Tata Play’s DTH application needs.Â
- The NSIL, incorporated in March 2019, is a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Department of Space (DOS) and is the commercial arm of DOS.Â
- The entire satellite capacity on-board GSAT-24 is leased to its committed customer Tata Play.

NeGD Organises 39th CISO Deep Dive Training Programme Under MeitY’s initiative Cyber Surakshit Bharat.
What is Cyber Surakshit Bharat?
- The Cyber Surakshit Bharat initiative was conceptualised with the mission to spread awareness of cybercrime and build capacities of Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and frontline IT officials, across all government departments.
- The objective is to ensure adequate safety measures to combat cybercrime, and for organizations to defend their digital infrastructures and become future-ready in tackling cyber-attacks.
- It is a public-private partnership that will leverage the expertise of the IT industry in the domain of cybersecurity.
- Operating on the principles of awareness, education and enablement, it will include training programmes on cybersecurity.
- Partners include Microsoft, WIPRO, Intel, NASSCOM, CERT-In, etc.
