1. ADMIRAL’S CUP 2023

Prelims: ADMIRAL’S CUP 2023

Context: Italy wins admiral’s cup 2023 held at indian naval academy.

Details:

  • The 12th edition of ‘Admiral’s Cup’ was conducted at Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala. 
  • Team Italy represented by Midshipman Avallone Antonio & Midshipman Creati Carlo Leonardo won the Admiral’s Cup 23.  
  • Team India represented by Midshipman PPK Reddy and Cadet GY Reddy was the Runners-Up and Team United Kingdom & Germany represented by Officer Cadet Lucy Bell and Midshipman Aaron Middleton from United Kingdom and Cadet Beckman Carl & Cadet Hinz Anton from Germany shared the third position. 
  • Seaman Gorkunov Petr from Russia stood first in the individual position in the men’s category followed by Midshipman Avallone Antonio from Italy and Midshipman PPK Reddy from India at second and third positions respectively. 
  • Officer Cadet Lucy Bell from the United Kingdom stood first in the individual position in women’s category followed by Cadet Sangla Elma Salsadila from Indonesia and Cadet Jhanvi Singh from India at second and third positions respectively.

2. Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit 2023

Prelims: Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit 2023

Context: Awards and recognition to Startups, AI entrepreneurs and innovators from diverse backgrounds showcasing their innovative AI solutions at Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit 2023.

Details:

  • The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) is a multi-stakeholder initiative which aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice on AI by supporting cutting-edge research and applied activities on AI-related priorities. 
  • Launched in June 2020 with 15 members, today GPAI’s membership has expanded to 28 member countries and the European Union (EU) As one of the founding members of GPAI in 2020, the current incoming Support Chair of GPAI, and the Lead Chair for GPAI in 2024, India is hosting the Annual GPAI Summit here from December 12-14, 2023. 
  • The event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on December 12, 2023
  • Senior-level government delegations from 26 GPAI member countries and the EU will participate in the Summit along with GPAI’s multi-stakeholder Experts’ Group, Global AI Experts, multilateral organizations, and other relevant stakeholders. 
  • As part of the Annual GPAI Summit, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is organizing the AI Gamechangers Award. 
  • This prestigious event will recognize and award AI entrepreneurs and innovators from diverse backgrounds to highlight their innovative AI solutions, furthering the technological frontier and GPAI’s thematic priorities of Global Health, Climate Change, Resilient Society, Collaborative AI for Global Partnership (CAIGP) and Sustainable Agriculture.

3. Quad Climate Working Group (QCWG)

Prelims: Quad Climate Working Group (QCWG)

Context: Quad Climate Working Group (QCWG) Side Event on Localised Climate Action based on G20’s High-Level Principle 7 on Lifestyles for Sustainable Development.

Details:

  • The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India organised a side event under the Climate Ambition Pillar of Quad Climate Working Group (QCWG) on “Localising Climate Action” at the India Pavilion on the sidelines of UNFCCC COP 28 at Dubai. 
  • The event focused on recognizing and amplifying the role of local communities, local and regional Governments in supporting sustainable lifestyles.
  • During the event, two sessions were organised focusing on the role of individuals, local communities, local and regional governments in combating climate change and also efforts by the National Governments to encourage localized climate action.
