1. PM- DevINE Scheme

Syllabus: GS III, Issues relating to mobilisation of resources, growth, development and employment. 

Prelims: About PM Gati Shakti, PM- DevINE

Context: The multilateral exercise of the Indian Navy popular as MILAN 2022, will commence at Visakhapatnam.

About the scheme:

  • The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance for the infrastructure development in the North-East region which is in line with the spirit of PM Gati Shakti
  • It will commence with an initial allocation of Rs 1500 crore. 
  • It will offer an immense boost to cancer care units in the region along with dedicated services for the management of Paediatric and Adult Haematolymphoid cancers to be established at Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati. 
  • A paediatric oncology block will be established that will provide treatment to the patients with common cancers along with the provision of state-of-the art facility. 
  • It will also stimulate livelihood opportunities for the youth and women.
  • This scheme will be an addition to the existing welfare schemes in the North-East region.

2. CORBEVAX

Syllabus: GS III, Awareness in the field of biotechnology

Prelims: About CORBEVAX 

Mains: India’s progress in the field of vaccine development.

Context: CORBEVAXTM is India’s first indigenously developed receptor binding domain protein sub-unit vaccine for COVID-19, has received approval from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for emergency use in individuals within the age group of 12-18 years.  

About the Vaccine:

  • This is developed by Biological E Limited with the support of the Department of Biotechnology and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC). 
  • It is a recombinant protein vaccine which uses the receptor binding domain of the spike protein on the viral surface. 
  • It is a double dose vaccine that is administered intramuscularly and stored at 2° C to 8° C.

3. ‘Sustainable Cities India Program’

Syllabus: GS I, Urbanisation, their problems and their remedies. 

Mains: Effective measures taken to make the cities sustainable and head towards a climate resilient future.

Context: A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the World Economic Forum and the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) to work in collaboration towards making the cities sustainable.

About the Initiative:

  • The aim is to create an environment for cities to generate decarbonisation solutions involving efficiency in energy and transport, building an environment for a low carbon future.  
  • This will boost India’s futuristic targets to mitigate the issues of climate change with the active participation of cities that will set upon an transformative journey towards sustainable solutions.

  • It will involve a city sprint process and a toolbox of solutions for the decarbonisation in five to seven cities for a period of two years. 
  • The city sprint process is a series of multisectoral, multi-stakeholder workshops that engages businesses, government and civil society to join the initiative of reducing the carbon footprint through clean electrification and circularity. It will provide a roadmap for net zero emissions through planning and action. 
  • The Toolbox of solutions will offer a digital platform with 200 examples of clean electrification processes, smart infrastructure solutions and best practices to ensure energy efficiency and sustainable mobility. 
  • This is a welcoming initiative which will facilitate India to achieve its net zero emissions targets by 2070.

4. Devayatanam

Syllabus: GS I, Salient aspects of architecture from ancient to modern times

Prelims: Temple architecture of India

Context: Devayatanam is a unique conference on the temple architecture of India which was inaugurated at Hampi in Karnataka. 

Aim of the Conference: Devayatanam aims to highlight the richness of Indian culture that is reflected through the fascinating architecture of Indian temples.

About Devayatanam:

  • It is an international conference which is organised by the Archaeological Survey of India, Ministry of Culture. 
  • The conference on Indian temples will echo the philosophical, religious, social, economic, technical and scientific significance of the temples. 
  • Various discussions on temple architecture and their importance will be held by the experts and eminent scholars.
  • The focus of the discussion will be on:
    • Temple- Formless to form
    • Evolution of temple architecture
    • Regional developmental forms 
    • Different Styles of architecture
    • Temples as epicentre of art, culture, education, administration and economy
    • Temples as the protector of environment
    • Culture diffusion in Southeast Asia

About Temple Architecture:

  • Temple construction was a traditional practice not only in the sub-continent but this practice travelled till the south-east and east Asia. There are more than 2 million Hindu temples in the country. 
  • Nagara, Dravida and Vesara are major kinds of temple architecture found in India.
