1. National Voters’ Day (NVD)

Syllabus: GS 2, Polity and Governance.

Mains: Government Policies and interventions.

Prelims: National Voters Day.

Context: Thirteenth National Voters’ Day (NVD) would be celebrated on 25th January 2023.

Details:

  • The Election Commission of India (ECI) will celebrate the 13th National Voters’ Day on 25th January 2023. The President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu is the Chief Guest of the event that will be organized in New Delhi.
  • ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure’ is the theme of NVD 2023. It is dedicated to the voters and conveys a person’s feelings and aspirations to participate in the electoral process.
  • During the event, National Awards for the Best Electoral Practices will also be given to State and District level officers for their outstanding performance in the conduct of elections during 2022 in different domains like Election Management, IT, Security Management, Electoral Roll, and voter awareness and outreach.
  • The book of ECI Publication titled ‘Electing the First President- An illustrated Chronicle of India’s Presidential Elections’ will be presented to the President of India. 
    • It is a first-of-its-kind publication that highlights the historic journey of Presidential Elections in India. 
  • Moreover, an ECI song- “Main Bharat Hoon- Hum Bharat Ke Matdata Hain” will also be screened during the event.

National Voters Day

  • National Voters’ Day is celebrated on January 25 every year since 2011 to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India, i.e. 25th January 1950. 
  • Its aim is to create electoral awareness and encourage the voters to participate in the elections. 
  • It is also used as a platform to facilitate the enrolment of voters, particularly the new  eligible young voters. 
  • The logo of NVD 2023 is designed to display the festivity and inclusivity of the electoral process. 
    • The Ashoka Chakra in the background of the logo represents the largest democracy in the world.
    • The inked finger highlights the participation of each and every voter of the country. 
    • The tick mark in the logo stands for informed decision-making by the voter.

2. Theatre Level Operational Readiness Exercise (TROPEX-23)

Syllabus: GS 3, Security.

Mains: Various Security forces and agencies and their mandate.

Prelims: TROPEX 23

Details:

  • TROPEX is an operational-level Indian Navy’s maritime exercise that is conducted biennially. Apart from all Indian Navy units, Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Coast Guard assets also participate in the exercise. 
  • TROPEX 23 is being organized for three months from January to March 2023.
  • The exercise is being conducted in different phases, both in harbour and at sea, comprising different facets of combat operations and live weapon firings.
  • It provides an opportunity for the Indian Navy to test its combat readiness for multi-threat environment. It will also provide the opportunity for operational-level interaction with the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and the Coast Guard, which will enhance interoperability and joint operations.

3. BharOS

Syllabus: GS 3, Science and Technology.

Mains: Developments in the field of Science and Technology.

Prelims: BharOS

Context: BharOS Operating System developed by IIT Madras was successfully tested.

Details:

  • ‘BharOS’ is a Made in India mobile operating system that is developed by IIT Madras. It was successfully tested by Union Ministers Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw.
  • It was highlighted that the poor people of India will be the main beneficiary of a strong, indigenous, dependable, and self-reliant digital infrastructure. It is a successful step towards data privacy.
  • ‘BharOS’ is an important initiative toward fulfilling the vision of a strong, indigenous, and self-reliant digital infrastructure in the country.

4. AMPHEX 2023

Syllabus: GS 3, Security.

Mains: Various Security forces and agencies and their mandate.

Prelims: AMPHEX 2023

Details:

  • AMPHEX 2023 is a biennial Tri-Services Amphibious Exercise that was conducted at Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh from 17 to 22 January 2023.
  • It was the largest ever AMPHEX and was aimed at joint training of all three services in amphibious operations that would strengthen interoperability and synergy.
  • A large number of amphibious ships such as Large Platform Dock (LPD), Landing Ships and Landing Crafts, Marine Commandos (MARCOS), helicopters, and aircraft from the Indian Navy participated during the exercise.
