Context: 

The International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) will celebrate  Ashadha Purnima as the Dharma Chakra Pravartana Divas at New Delhi.  

About International Buddhist Confederation (IBC)

  • International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) works under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture.
  • IBC represents the rich diversity of Buddhism preserving and promoting its shared heritage. 
  • It provides a platform for the global Buddhist community to share its wisdom.  

Significance of Ashadha Purnima

  • According to the Indian lunar calendar, Ashadha Purnima, the auspicious day that coincides with the full moon of that month.
  • On the full moon day of Ashadha, the Buddha gave his first lesson to his first five monastic followers at “Deer Park”, Sarnath.
  • Both Buddhists and Hindus honour the day as Guru Purnima as a day to show respect for their respective Gurus.

Significance of the Event

  • After Buddha Purnima and Vaishaka Purnima, Ashadha Purnima is an extremely important day among Buddhists.
  • The Ashadha Purnima celebrations are being held at the National Museum, Janpath, where the Sakhyamuni’s Holy relic is kept.
  • Buddha preached his first sermon and launched the dharma there in Sarnath.

2. Akshar River Cruise

Context: 

Recently, the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation launched -Made in India ‘Akshar River Cruise’.

About Akshar River Cruise

  • Akshar River Cruise is a floating restaurant  launched on Sabarmati Riverfront.
  • The cruise was created by the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
  • It is the first passenger catamaran produced in India as part of the Make in India initiative.

Features of the cruise restaurant

  • The floating restaurant will take tourists on a one-hour and 30-minute ride along the Sabarmati River.
  • The cruise ship has been outfitted with cutting-edge safety equipment, such as an innovative fire alarm and water sprinkler, plenty of life jackets, a life boat, and other facilities, in an effort to ensure the visitors’ safety.

Significance 

  • The Sabarmati Riverfront has evolved into the hub of Ahmedabad’s social and cultural activities.
  • This will aid in boosting tourism in the state.

3. StartUps Intellectual Property Rights Protection

Prelims: StartUps Intellectual Property Rights Protection’ scheme

Context: 

The union minister of state (Independent Charge) for science and technology has said that the ‘StartUps Intellectual Property Rights Protection’ scheme is aimed at promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.

About StartUps Intellectual Property Rights Protection’ scheme

  • The Government of India launched the (Start-Ups Intellectual Property Protection) SIPP plan as one of its key initiatives to encourage and support innovation and entrepreneurship in the nation. 
  • This programme offers start-ups the financial and legal assistance they need to protect and manage their intellectual property (IP) assets. 
  • The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, oversees the administration of the SIPP scheme.
  • The scheme calls for an 80% rebate on patent filing and a 40%–50% rebate compared to businesses and industries that are more traditional.

Purpose of StartUps Intellectual Property Rights Protection’(SIPP) scheme

  • The fundamental goal of the SIPP plan is to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in India by giving start-ups a supportive environment to protect  their intellectual property (IP) assets.
  • The scheme aims to educate start-ups about the value of IP protection, offer financial aid  and provide legal support to help defend their IP assets against infringement.
