1. World Sickle Cell Day

Context – Sensitisation Workshop on Sickle Cell Disease on World Sickle Cell Day.

Details

  • The Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda, chaired a Sensitisation Workshop on Sickle Cell Anaemia Disease, organised at the National Tribal Research Institute, New Delhi on the occasion of World Sickle Cell Day.
  • The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has undertaken Sickle Cell Elimination in a mission mode. In order to discuss recent developments in the management of Sickle Cell disease, including early detection and advanced treatments, the workshop brought together a group of experts from across the country.
  • Sickle Cell Disease is widespread among the tribal population in India and it is estimated that 1 in 86 births among STs have sickle cell disease. Early detection, management and treatment of sickle cell disease are of prime importance to enable the affected individuals to lead a long and fulfilling life.

About World Sickle Cell Day –

  • World Sickle Cell Awareness Day has its origins in a United Nations General Assembly resolution adopted on December 22, 2008. The resolution recognised sickle cell disease as a global health concern and designated June 19th as the official day to raise awareness about the disease worldwide.
  • World Sickle Cell Day was established to raise awareness about the disease which affects millions of people globally, particularly those of African, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and South Asian descent.
  • Sickle Cell Disease is a genetic blood disorder characterised by abnormal red blood cells that take on a crescent or sickle shape and these irregularly shaped cells can cause blockages in blood vessels, leading to a variety of health complications.

2. India – Vietnam Bilateral Relationship

Prelims: India- Vietnam Bilateral Relationship.

Context – The Defence Minister of Vietnam called on the President of India and also held talks with the Raksha Mantri, Rajnath Singh.

Details

  • The President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu welcomed the Defence Minister of Vietnam, General Phan Van Giang and his delegation to India.
  • Vietnam is an important pillar of India’s Act East Policy and a key partner of the Indo-Pacific vision.
  • The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Vietnam has widened the range of bilateral cooperation including defence and security cooperation, trade and investment relations, energy security, development cooperation, and cultural and people-to-people relations. 
  • The Defence Minister of India, Shri Rajnath Singh held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart and discussed means to enhance existing areas of cooperation, particularly in the field of defence industry cooperation, maritime security and multinational cooperation.
  • The Defence Minister of India also announced the gifting of an indigenously-built in-service Missile Corvette INS Kirpan which will enhance the capabilities of the Vietnam People’s Navy. The bilateral cooperation in the defence sector is one of the strongest elements of the partnership between the two countries.

3. Ex. Khaan Quest, 2023

Syllabus: GS3, Various Security forces and agencies and their mandate. 

Prelims: Ex. Khaan Quest, 2023

Context – The 14-day Ex Khaan Quest, 2023 commenced in Mongolia.

Details

  • A multinational peacekeeping Exercise Khaan Quest, 2023 commenced in Mongolia. Military contingents and observers from over 20 countries are participating in the exercise.
  • The exercise is co-sponsored by Mongolian Armed Forces (MAF) and the United States Army Pacific Command (USARPAC).
  • The Indian Army is represented by a contingent from the Garhwal Rifles.
  • The exercise is aimed at enhancing the interoperability of the participating nations, sharing experience and training uniformed personnel for the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations (UNPKO).
  •  The exercise includes Field Training Exercises (FTX), Command Post Exercises (CPX), combat discussions, lectures and demonstrations.
  • This exercise will enhance the defence cooperation between Indian Army and participating countries, particularly the Mongolian Armed Forces.

4. DAKSHTA at iGOT Karmayogi

Syllabus: GS2, Education, e-Governance.

Prelims: DAKSHTA at iGOT Karmayogi.

Context – New ‘Dakshta’ Course For Young Professionals Live On Govt’s iGOT Platform.

Details

  •  A new online course ‘Dakshta’ (Development of Attitude, Knowledge, Skill for Holistic Transformation in Administration) for young professionals, is now live on the iGOT Karmayogi platform. 
  • Tailored for young professionals and consultants engaged in government, this collection (consisting of 18 courses) seeks to build functional, domain and behavioural competencies by acquainting learners with subjects crucial for discharging their duties, and responsibilities effectively.
  • The iGOT (Integrated Government Online Training) Karmayogi Platform is a comprehensive online portal to help government officials in their capacity-building journey. The portal combines six functional hubs for online learning, career management, competency management, events, discussions and networking.
  • Mission Karamyogi is a national programme for civil services capacity building that has been playing an integral role in nurturing a smart, citizen-friendly and future-ready public workforce.
