1. Meeting of Range Countries to Conserve Migratory Birds

Details:

  • The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) along with the United Nations Environment Programme/ Convention on Migratory Species (UNEP/CMS) organized a meeting of Range Countries to strengthen conservation efforts for migratory birds and their habitats in the Central Asian Flyway (CAF).
  • The meeting was organized in New Delhi from 2nd to 4th May 2023.
  • The meeting was attended by eleven countries of the Central Asian Flyway including Armenia, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Mongolia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
  • It was also attended by representatives from various other organizations (both national and international).
  • The delegates agreed to the draft roadmap for updating the CMS CAF Action Plan.
  • The aim of the meeting is to develop a coordinated approach for the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats.

2. Indian Coast Guard brings back Fishermen from Maldives

Syllabus: GS 2, International Relations.

Mains: India-Maldives relations.

Details:

  • Indian Coast Guard rescued ten Indian fishermen from Maldivian waters to Vishakhapatnam, India.
  • The boat of these fishermen drifted to the Maldivian region due to engine failure. ICGS Vigraha was used to bring back these fishermen.
