1. One Station One Product

Syllabus: GS 2, Polity and Governance.

Details:

  • One Station One Product (OSOP) is launched by the Ministry of Railways. 
  • Its aim is to promote the ‘vocal for local’ vision of the Indian government, provide a market for local or indigenous products, and create livelihood opportunities for vulnerable sections of society.  
  • Almost 728 stations are covered with 785 OSOP outlets in 21 States and 3 Union Territories of India.
  • The stalls of OSOP are designed by National Design Institute.
  • OSOP includes products designed by indigenous tribes, local artisans, and weavers. For example,
    • In Jammu and Kashmir, OSOP stall sells Kashmiri Girda, Kashmiri Kahwa, and Dry Fruits.
    • Similarly, in South India, spices, cashew, and Chinnalapatti Handloom Sarees are catching the attention of passengers.
  • The scheme covers products under the following categories:
    • Handicrafts/Artefacts
    • Textiles and Handlooms
    • Traditional Garments
    • Local agricultural produce (including millets)/Processed/semi-processed foods.

2. SCO Presidency

Syllabus: GS 2, International Relations.

Mains: Regional and Global Groupings.

Prelims: Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Details:

  • Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare chaired the sixth session of the Health Ministers meeting of the Shanghai Corporation Organization (SCO).
  • The meeting was attended by high-level stakeholders like Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director General, World Health Organization (WHO), and Mr. Jhang Ming, SCO Secretary-General.
  • Various aspects like universal health coverage, health for economic development, surveillance for early detection of health emergencies, digital health, etc. were discussed during the meeting.
  • It was also highlighted that there is a need to collaborate for the holistic management of non-communicable diseases through lifestyle modification.
  • It was suggested that SCO member states should recognize the potential of medical value travel. It would promote and explore new ways to collaborate and exchange best practices within the region.
  • The meeting concluded with the adoption of the Final Statement of the Sixth Meeting of SCO Health Ministers.

SCO Presidency:

  • India is holding the rotating Presidency of the Shanghai Corporation Organization (SCO).
  • The theme of India’s SCO Presidency is to create a positive impact for the betterment of mankind and work together towards a “SECURE SCO”.

3. Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Sangh Adhiveshan

Syllabus: GS 2, Polity and Governance.

Mains: Government policies and interventions.

Context: Prime Minister participates in Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Sangh Adhiveshan in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Details:

  • The 29th Biennial Conference of the All India Primary Teacher’ Federation called Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Sangh Adhiveshan was attended by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
  • ‘Teachers are at the Heart of Transforming Education’ is the theme of the conference.
  • The PM highlighted the contribution of teachers in nation-building.
  • He also asked the teachers to guide and mentor the students apart from educating them.
  • He further explained the role of primary teachers as the first persons apart from the family who spend the most time with the child.
  • The National Education Policy 2020 was also discussed. 
  • It was emphasized that there is a need to create a conducive environment to encourage people to become teachers.
  • The speech concluded on a positive note that a small change by the teachers can bring about monumental changes in the lives of young students.
