1. Exercise Samudra Shakti 2023

Context: Exercise Samudra Shakti 2023 concluded on 19th May.

Details:

  • The fourth edition of Exercise Samudra Shakti 2023 concluded on 19th May.
  • The sea phase of the Exercise was held from 17 to 19 May 2023.
  • INS Kavaratti with an integral Chetak helicopter and a Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft from India participated in the event.
  • Whereas KRI Sultan Iskandar Muda with an integral helicopter Panther and a CN 235 Maritime Patrol Aircraft participated from Indonesia.
  • Exercise Samudra Shakti displays a strong partnership between India and Indonesia and promotes peace and stability in the region.

2. Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Seher Campaign

Mains: Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Seher Campaign

Details:

  • The Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Seher Campaign gains momentum as the cities are pushing for sustainability and better LiFE.
  • It is a nationwide campaign to establish RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Centres, one-stop collection centres, for citizens to contribute clothes, shoes, old books, toys, and used plastic to be reused or recycled.
  • The RRR Centres are in line with the ‘Goodwill or Impact Centres’ of the west that are the central hub for sustainability.
  • So far, 7000 RRR centres have been launched all across India.
  • These centres are capturing the essence of ‘Jan Andolan’.
  • Several innovative approaches are also being incorporated in designing RRR centres such as RRR on Wheels in Dewas.

3. National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP)

Syllabus: GS 3, Security.

Prelims: National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP).

Details:

  • The Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah has laid the foundation stone of the National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP) at Dwarka, Gujarat.
  • It aims to strengthen coastal and border security. 
  • It is a significant move as India has a  15,000 km long land border and a 7,516 km long sea border.
  • Notably, the total number of Coastal Police personnel in India is around 12,000.
  • The Minister also highlighted the death anniversary of Shri Bipin Chandra Pal on 20th May.
