Context:

NSDC and ILO forge strategic partnership to enhance Skill Development and Lifelong Learning.

Details:

  • Advancing the Skill Mission, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) announced a strategic partnership to advance skill development and lifelong learning in India and globally.
  • The collaboration aims to empower individuals across the globe, by equipping them with essential competencies and qualifications, thereby enhancing employability and sustainable economic growth.
  • This partnership is dedicated to developing effective policies, governance and financing structures which will enhance skill development, both nationally and internationally. 
  • A key aspect of the partnership is the implementation of the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH). 
    • Workers’ and employers’ organizations in ILO member countries will be able to use SIDH to digitize systems, processes, skills delivery, and job matching, based on a cost-effective model.
  • This digital transformation will streamline skill development initiatives, enhancing their efficiency, accessibility, and global impact.
  • The partnership aims to facilitate public-private partnerships and knowledge exchange to enhance Sector Skill Councils (SSCs), develop micro-credentials, and promote Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) through a global knowledge-sharing platform.

 


2. Prelims Facts

Department of BioTechnology-Institute of Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council:

  • The Institute of Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (iBRIC, an organization of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India)—Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI)—has organized the 2nd THSTI Advanced Course in Vaccinology (TiVaC) along with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).
  • The iBRIC-THSTI was at the centre of the research and development response to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. 
  • The Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) is an autonomous institute under the Dept. of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, GOI.
    • Its mission is to improve the health of the most disadvantaged people in India and worldwide by integrating the fields of medicine, science engineering and technology into translational knowledge and making the resulting biomedical innovations accessible to public health.
    • The iBRIC-THSTI has established a world-class infrastructure for research and has the capability and capacity to develop vaccines among other products.
    • Scientists at the iBRIC-THSTI are working on promising vaccine platforms such as the Multivalent Self-Assembled Nanocage Platform (MSN platform) and the Structure-AI-Driven Native Antigen Platform. 
    • The vaccine candidate portfolio consists of MERS spike trimers, SARS-CoV-2 spike trimers, Influenza HA trimers, Influenza NA tetramers, Nipah G tetramers, Nipah F trimers, Dengue envelope dimers, Chikungunya envelope trimers using transient expression systems in HEK293 and CHO cell lines. 
    • The development of a CHO cell line for stable production of antigens is under development.
