Context:

• India Water Week-2022 concluded in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh with the Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar presiding over as Chief Guest. The Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, was the special guest. 

Details:

• Speaking at the event, the Vice President Shri Dhankhar noted the association of water with India’s ancient culture and emphasized the impact of safe drinking water on the health and social status of the people. 
• The Vice President noted important initiatives like the creation of a separate Ministry of Jal Shakti and schemes like the Jal Jeevan Mission to emphasize the current administration’s focus on water.
• The Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare noted the extensive use of water in agriculture and called for rationalizing this usage by emphasis on micro irrigation and water conservation. He called on all people to join hands towards the “Save Water – Save Life Campaign”. He pointed out to important initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana and watershed development projects and the need to push them further.

Context:

• Dance drama based on the life of Raja Rammohun Roy was organized recently under the theme ‘Nari Samman’ at Central Vista. 
• The event is being organised by Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation of Ministry of Culture.
• A one-year long celebration was launched by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India on May 22, 2022, on the occasion of the 250th birth anniversary of Raja Rammohun Roy, as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Raja Ram Mohan Roy:

• Raja Ram Mohan Roy is called the father of modern Indian society.
• Born on May 22, 1772 in Radhanagar, Bengal, Raja Rammohun Roy played a remarkable role in the religious, social and political reforms of India. He was the founder of Brahmo Samaj and promoted modern and scientific approach. He is most notable for his high ideals and philosophy of life.
