National Cadet Corps (NCC)

Context:

NCC celebrates its 71st Raising Day.

About the National Cadet Corps (NCC):

 

  • The NCC is the largest uniformed youth organisation in the world.
  • It is the youth wing of the Indian armed forces.
  • It is headquartered in New Delhi and is open to school and college students on a voluntary basis.
  • The NCC is a tri-service organisation and comprises of army, navy and air force wings.
  • It recruits cadets from schools and colleges from all over India.
  • The cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades.
  • After the cadets complete their course, there is no liability to join the mainstream military service.
  • NCC’s motto: “Unity and Discipline”
  • The organisation was formed in 1948 by the National Cadet Corps Act.
  • The NCC is headed by a Director General with the rank of Lieutenant General.
  • The NCC aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens.
  • Further, it aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the nation regardless of which career they choose.
  • The NCC also provides an environment conducive to motivating young Indians to join the armed forces.
  • It conducts many activities such as various camps, adventure sports activities, leadership courses, cultural exchanges, etc.
  • The NCC celebrates its Raising Day on 24th November every year.

International Tourism Mart 2019

Context:

The 8th International Tourism Mart (ITM) – 2019 is being held at Imphal, Manipur in November 2019.

Details:

  • The ITM has the objective of highlighting the tourism potential of the northeastern region in the domestic and international markets.
  • It brings together the tourism business fraternity and entrepreneurs from the eight North Eastern States.
  • The event has been planned and scheduled to facilitate interaction between buyers, sellers, media, government agencies and other stakeholders.
  • The 8th ITM will put the spotlight on ‘Sustainable Tourism an engine for Economic Growth and Employment’.
  • Besides deliberations on promotion of tourism in the North East Region in general, the Mart will also give a platform for promoting cultural ties, providing enhanced connectivity to the States of the North Eastern Region with other countries in the neighbourhood.
  • A total of 36 foreign buyer delegates from over 19 countries are participating in the Mart.
  • International and domestic buyers will be engaging in business-to-business meetings with sellers from the North Eastern Region.
