1. 6th All India Prison Duty Meet
Prelims – All India Prison Duty Meet.

Context – Shri Amit Shah, the Union Home & Cooperation Minister inaugurated the 6th All India prison Duty Meet, at Kankaria, Ahmedabad.
Details –
- The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) organised the three day Prison Meet.
- It is the second Prison Meet held in Gujarat. The first Prison Meet was held in Gujarat, when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister and Shri Amit Shah was the Home Minister.
- The Union Home Minister in his address said that the Prison Meet will encourage sportsmanship in a positive way and the prison administration will benefit by the exchange and interaction of flourishing experiences between the participants.
- In 2016, a new Model Jail manual was framed, after a detailed review. 11 states and Union Territories adopted this new model jail manual. It contains a number of remedial points, its emphasis is on computerisation in prisons to have basic uniformity in Human Rights, reformation in the rehabilitation of prisoners, new rules and regulations. There are also specific facilities for the rights of women prisoners.
- The government is also working to bring the Model Jail Act to make necessary changes in the Act which have been there since the British period. The model Jail Act will make jails State-of- the-Art in terms of technology.
BPR&D organises the All India Prison Duty Meet with a view to improve the standard of professional skills and also to promote camaraderie among the prison personnel. It also provides a platform for the prison personnel across the country to exhibit their skills at the national level and to boost up their morale. The earlier five have been conducted in 2002 (Tamil Nadu), 2007 (Gujarat), 2010 (Odisha), 2012 (Andhra Pradesh) and 2016 (Telangana).
2. In- Store Export Promotion Show for Pineapples, Dubai
Syllabus – GS 3, Agriculture – Marketing of Agricultural Produce.
Prelims – In-store promotion of Kwe variety of Pineapples.
Context – Centre in collaboration with Government of Manipur organised ‘in -store export promotion show” in Dubai for pineapples.
Details –
- The Government through APEDA held an in-store export promotion programme for pineapples of Manipur in Dubai.
- The ‘in-store promotion show’ for pineapples, Kwe variety, at Lulu hypermarket was in collaboration with Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) , Government of Manipur. MOMA has aided the sourcing of organic certified kwe variety of pineapples directly from the farmers of Manipur.
- Pineapple, the fibre rich fruit, is one of the most important tropical fruits grown in north-eastern region .
- Manipur is at the 6th position in the cultivation of pineapples in India.
- Tripura exported its queen variety of pineapples to Dubai & Doha in 2018. Tripura is the first state to export its pineapples abroad.
- With the support of APEDA, there has been an appreciable rise in the export of agricultural products from north-east regions.
- This programme is a part of the government’s plan of introducing domestically grown agricultural products to the international market.
- 136 capacity building programmes have been organised by APEDA on export awareness across various parts of the north-east region in the last three years. Also, APEDA made 22 International Buyer-Seller Meet possible and also held trade fairs in the north-eastern states in the last three years.
- APEDA (Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) aims to create a platform in Manipur for the exporters to get the products directly from the source and the processors. The platform will connect the producers and processors of Assam and exporters from other parts of the country that would enlarge the base of the export areas in the North-East region, including Manipur and would also help in generating the employment avenues among the people of the state. APEDA was established by the Government of India under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act passed by the Parliament in December 1985. APEDA has undertaken a number of initiatives to enhance the existing e-Governance system and introduced new online facilities for the benefit of stakeholders.
- APEDA has marked its presence in almost all Agro potential states in India to provide services to the Agri export community.
3. Raksha Mantri’s Upcoming Visit to Mongolia
Syllabus – GS 2, Bilateral, regional and global groupings and agreements involving India and/or affecting India’s interests.
Prelims – East Asian Relations- India and Mongolia.
Context – Upcoming visit of Shri Rajnath Singh, Indian Defence Minister to Mongolia.
Details –
- From 5th to &th September, Shri Rajnath Singh will visit Mongolia. It is the first ever visit by the minister to Mongolia.
- The aim of the visit is to strengthen the defence cooperation between the two nations. The minister is supposed to hold talks with his Mongolian counterpart and also His Excellency Mr U. Khurelsukh, the President of Mongolia.
- Both the nations share a common interest – to foster peace and prosperity in the region.
- Regional and global issues of shared interest will be discussed.
