What are the types of metamorphic rocks?

Metamorphic rocks are classified into two major groups. They are foliated rocks and non-foliated rocks.

• Foliated means the parallel arrangement of certain mineral grains that gives the rock a striped appearance. Example: granite gneiss and schist.
• Non-foliated metamorphic rocks do not have platy or sheet-like structure. Example: marble and quartzite.
