What was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi called in South Africa?

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi received the honorific ‘Mahamata’ during his time in South Africa. It was first applied to him in 1914.

The honorific was bestowed upon him due to his work in fighting for equal rights of the coloured people of South Africa who were subject to a racist regime.
