Mahatma Gandhi was invited to Champaran at the behest of Raj Kumar Shukla and Sant Raut. His arrival at Champaran would begin a satyagraha movement.
The Champarana Satyagraha of 1917 was an historically important event in the Indian freedom struggle. It was a farmers’ movement that took place during British colonial rule.
