Indian Overseas Bank Specialist Officer (SO) Exam 2023

The Indian Overseas Bank conducts exams to recruit candidates for the post of Specialist officer  throughout India. In 2023, 25 vacancies were announced for the posts of Information Security and Information System Audit in MMG Scale II & MMG Scale III. The bank selects applicants based on an online test and interview. The selected candidates are placed on probation of 2 years from the date of joining.

Indian Overseas Bank Specialist Officer (SO) Salary

The candidates who are chosen for the Specialist Officer position will serve a two-year probationary period (active service) beginning on the date they join the bank. Additionally, candidates must sign a ‘Financial Employment Indemnity Bond’ for Rs. 1,000,000 for a minimum of 3 years of service. The pay scale that is applicable to Specialist officers is given in the table below. Selected candidates will also be eligible for various allowances as per the rules and regulations of the bank.

Indian Overseas Bank Specialist Officer (SO) Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who wish to apply for the IOB Specialist Officer exam should carefully go through the eligibility criteria given in the official notification. Aspirants can visit the official website of the Indian Overseas bank to apply for the Specialist officer post. Candidates can register for the exam by clicking on the link given on the ‘Careers’ page of the website. When applying for the exam, the candidates should take the following into account.

  • Candidates must carefully read the instructions related to the application process before filling out the online application form.
  • They should submit the application form and pay the prescribed fee before the last date given in the notification. Aspirants who wish to apply for more than one post have to register and pay the application fee separately.
  • Candidates should have a valid email address and mobile number before applying for the exam.
  • The photograph, signature and relevant documents should be scanned and uploaded as per the specifications given in the notification.
  • The registration number and the password should be noted down carefully for future reference.
  • Candidates should verify all the information given in the application form before submitting it.

Candidates should ensure that they pay the application fee after filling in the online application form. Aspirants can pay the fee through online payment mode only. On successful completion of the transaction, an e-receipt will be generated by the system. Candidates should take a printout of the e-receipt for future reference. Indian Overseas Bank Specialist Officer (SO) Exam Admit Card

The admit card for the online test can be downloaded from the official website of the Indian Overseas Bank. Candidates have to login using their registration number and password. After downloading the call letter, applicants should carefully check the admit card for any discrepancy. If they find any discrepancy, they should contact the helpdesk immediately.

Candidates should paste a passport size photograph on the admit card and carry a valid photo ID proof and its photocopy to the exam centre. When going to the exam venue, applicants should make sure that their photo ID bears the exact name as it does on the call letter. Ration cards and learner’s permits are not accepted as valid ID documents. 

For the interview, the bank may send the call letter to the email address of selected candidates. Therefore, it is important that all applicants have a valid email ID and mobile number before applying for the examination.

Indian Overseas Bank Specialist Officer (SO) Exam Pattern 

The Specialist officer (SO) exam is conducted in two phases i.e. an online examination and an interview. The multiple-choice questions in the objective, online test include questions on reasoning, English language proficiency, numerical aptitude, and professional knowledge (based on the post for which the candidate has applied). English language, reasoning and quantitative aptitude are qualifying papers. The maximum marks given for the professional knowledge test is 80.

Candidates who pass the online examination are eligible to appear for the interview. The exam pattern of the IOB SO online test is as follows:

Points to Remember: Indian Overseas Bank Specialist Officer (SO) Online Test

  • There is negative marking of 0.25 marks, where one fourth of the marks allotted to the question will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • Candidates can apply for multiple positions. These applicants have to take the professional knowledge test for each position one after the other (in the same session and without any break).
  • Only a limited number of candidates are selected for the online test. The candidates are shortlisted based on the eligibility criteria given in the official notification.
  • The registration numbers of shortlisted candidates who are eligible for the online test is displayed on the official website of the Indian Overseas Bank. 

Interview for  the Indian Overseas Bank Specialist Officer (SO) Post

The applicants who pass the online examination will be shortlisted for the interview. Interviews (either online or offline) will take place at centres chosen by the Indian Overseas Bank. The call letter, which is sent to the applicant’s registered email ID, will include information on the venue, the interview date etc.
