Steps To Fill the UPSC Application Form 2023

  1. Visit www.upsconline.nic.in and get the link to apply online
  2. Click the ‘Online Application For Various Examinations’ link, and you will be redirected to the IAS application form
  3. Here, fill in Part I and II of the form and upload all the required documents
    • Part-I – personal details, educational qualifications and address
    • Part II – payment details, select the examination centre, upload Photograph, Signature, Photo Identity Card Document and Declaration
  4. After filling in the academic details and uploading the documents and photograph, pay the IAS Exam Fee. This is the last step of the application process

There are certain points that must not be missed while filling in the application form for the IAS exam:

  • Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are to be mandatorily filled
  • The application form is available in both English and Hindi, it must be filled only in English.
  • Once the candidate clicks the submit button and his/her application is submitted successfully, no changes are allowed thereafter
  • Candidates are strongly advised to apply online well in time without waiting for the last date for submission of Online Applications

Common Questions on Application Form for IAS Exam

Q 1. In case of an error in the application form, is there an option to fill another form?

Ans. The Union Public Service strictly recommends that only one application form must be submitted by every candidate. Yet, in case of an error, an applicant can fill another form as well. At the end of the recruitment process, the form with the highest Registration ID (RID) will only be accepted.

Q 2. Is it possible to change the exam centre for the prelims exam once the IAS application form has been finally submitted?

Q 3. Can a candidate withdraw their application?

Ans. Yes, UPSC provides the opportunity for application withdrawal only for candidates who have completed the online registration. Aspirants with incomplete application forms cannot withdraw their candidature.

Q 4. Who all are restricted from applying for the IAS Exam?

Ans. Under the following circumstances, the candidate’s application can be restricted:

  • A candidate who is appointed to the IAS or IFS based on the results of an earlier examination and continues to be a member of that Service
  • A candidate who is appointed to the Indian Police Service based on past results and continues to be a member of that Service shall not be eligible to opt for IPS
