UPSC 2013: List of Toppers

The UPSC civil services exam is attempted by lakhs of people in the country in the hope of getting into the coveted Indian civil services. A career in the services is considered a deeply satisfying and challenging one and many civil servants have gone onto become harbingers of positive change for the nation. It is always interesting and motivating to read the stories of the top rankers of the UPSC CSE. One can also get insights into their IAS preparation strategies and plans that helped them achieve such stupendous success in what is considered the toughest competitive exam in the country. This article lists the names of the toppers of the 2013 UPSC civil services along with their optional subjects.

The top rank (AIR 1) went to Gaurav Agrawal, a native of Jaipur, whose academic credentials speak for themselves. He is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and IIM Lucknow (where he bagged a Gold Medal). He achieved the first rank and chose the IAS in his second attempt. His first attempt had earned him a place in the IPS. Second-rank holder Munish Sharma hails from Delhi and studied management at the prestigious Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management at Delhi. The third rank was bagged by Rachit Raj, who is a B.Tech graduate in Biotechnology and is a native of Jharkhand.

Among the top 25 rank-holders, only one went for the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) while the rest preferred and were allotted the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
