The UPSC Mains 2021 was conducted from 7th January 2022 onwards. The aspirants have to choose one optional subject, and it has two papers. Optional subject Paper I was held in the morning session (9 AM to 12 PM) on 16th January 2022 and the optional subject Paper II was held in the afternoon session (2 PM to 5 PM) on 16th January 2022.

UPSC 2021 Mains Optional Papers
Paper VI and Paper VII of the Mains exam has to be written for a total of 250 marks each. The time duration given for each paper is 3 hours each.

The scope of the syllabus for optional subject papers (Paper VI and Paper VII) for the examination is broadly of the honours degree level, i.e. a level higher than the bachelors’ degree and lower than the masters’ degree. In the case of Engineering, Medical Science and law, the level corresponds to the bachelors’ degree.
The candidates can also choose Literature of any one of the following languages as their optional subject.
