1. Global Buddhist Summit, 2023

Prelims – Global Buddhist Summit.

Context – The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi addressed the inaugural session of the Global Buddhist Summit, New Delhi.

Details

  • The Prime Minister addressed the inaugural session of the Global Buddhist Summit and welcomed everyone from different corners of the world to the summit. 
  • The Indian government has worked to take the Buddha’s teachings to the people, and this includes steps such as the development of the Buddhist circuits in India and Nepal, renovating pilgrimage centres such as Sarnath and Kushinagar, building an India International Centre for Buddhist Heritage and Culture at Lumbini with the International Buddhist Confederation’s (IBC) cooperation.

Global Buddhist Summit

  • The two-day Summit is being hosted by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with International Buddhist Confederation (IBC).
  • The theme of the Summit is “Responses to Contemporary Challenges: Philosophy to Praxis”.
  • The Summit is an effort towards engaging the global Buddhist Dhamma leadership and scholars on matters of Buddhist and global concerns.
  • The summit witnessed the participation of eminent scholars, Sangha Leaders and Dharma practitioners from all over the world. The discussions were held on pressing global issues and looking for answers in the Buddha Dhamma based on universal values.

2. Exercise INIOCHOS, 2023

Syllabus – GS3, Various Security forces and agencies and their mandate. 

Prelims – Ex. INIOCHOS, 2023.

Context – IAF will participate in the Ex. INIOCHOS at the Andravida Air Base in Greece (24th April – 4th May 2023).

Details

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) will be participating in Exercise INIOCHOS-23, a multi-national air exercise hosted by the Greek Air Force.
  • The exercise will be conducted at the Andravida Air Base in Greece. Four Su-30 MKI and two C-17 aircraft from the Indian Air Force will be participating in the exercise.
  • The aim of the exercise is to increase international cooperation, synergy and interoperability among the participating air forces. The exercise will enable the participating contingents to engage in professional interactions, providing valuable insights into each other’s best practices.

3. 16th Civil Services Day

Syllabus – GS2, Role of Civil Services in Democracy 

Prelims – Civil Services Day (21st April)

Context – The Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh addressed the 16th Civil Services Day at Vigyan Bhawan.

Details

  • ‘Civil Services Day’ is observed on April 21 every year to acknowledge the work of all the officers engaged in different public service departments in the country.
  • The theme for the two-day Civil Services Day is ‘Viksit Bharat: Empowering Citizens and Reaching the Last Mile’.
  • Addressing the inaugural session of 16th Civil Services Day, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the officers who are in the age group of the 30s should be the main focus for capacity building as they have another 25 years to put in, before India celebrates its 100 years of independence and they are the ones blessed with the privilege to be the architects of India at 2047. The minister said that it is essential for civil servants to embrace innovation and technology to improve public service delivery and governance.
  • The Prime Minister will confer the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Administration on Civil Services Day, 21st April, 2023. 15 Awardees from 2520 nominations would be receiving the awards.
