1. National Programme for Dairy Development

Context:

The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD) is implementing the “National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD)” scheme across the country since Feb-2014. 

About the National Programme for Dairy Development:

  • The NPDD scheme aims to enhance the quality of milk and milk products and increase the share of organized milk procurement. 
  • The scheme has two components:
    • Component ‘A’ focuses towards creating/strengthening infrastructure for quality milk testing equipment as well as primary chilling facilities for State Cooperative Dairy Federations/ District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union/SHG-run private dairy/Milk Producer Companies/Farmer Producer Organisations. 
    • Component ‘B’ (Dairying Through Cooperatives) provides financial assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
      • It is implemented on a pilot basis in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar initially to create necessary dairy infrastructure to provide market linkages for the produce in villages and for strengthening capacity building of stake-holding institutions from village to State level.
  • It is a central sector scheme being run from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
  • Objectives of the NPDD:
    • To create and strengthen infrastructure for quality milk including cold chain infrastructure linking the farmer to the consumer.
    • To provide training to dairy farmers for clean milk production.
    • To create awareness of quality and clean milk production.
    • To support research and development on quality milk and milk products.

2. National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCBVI)

Context:

Update on National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCBVI).

About NPCBVI:

  • The programme was launched in 1976 as a 100% Centrally Sponsored scheme with the goal to reduce the prevalence of blindness from 1.4% to 0.3%. 
  • Objectives of NPCBVI:
    • To reduce the backlog of blindness through identification and treatment of the blind at primary, secondary and tertiary levels based on an assessment of the overall burden of visual impairment in the country.
    • Develop and strengthen the strategy of NPCBVI for “Eye Health” and prevention of visual impairment; through the provision of comprehensive Eye Care services and quality service delivery.
    • Strengthening and upgradation of Regional Institutes of Ophthalmology (RIOs) to become centres of excellence in various sub-specialities of ophthalmology.
    • Strengthening the existing and developing additional human resources and infrastructure facilities for providing high-quality comprehensive Eye Care in all Districts of the country.
    • To enhance community awareness of eye care and lay stress on preventive measures.
    • Increase and expand research for the prevention of blindness and visual impairment.
    • To secure the participation of Voluntary Organizations/Private Practitioners in eye care.
  • It is under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.

3. Lokmanya Tilak National Award

Context:

PM conferred the Lokmanya Tilak National Award.

Details:

  • The Award was constituted by Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust in 1983 to honour the legacy of Lokmanya Tilak. 
  • The Prime Minister donated the cash prize to the Namami Gange Project.

4. Nyaya Bandhu Programme

Prelims: Nyaya Bandhu Programme

Context:

Free legal aid and advice through Nyaya Bandhu Programme.

Nyaya Bandhu Programme:

  • Nyaya Bandhu’s (Pro Bono Legal Services) primary initiative is to establish a framework for the dispensation of pro bono legal services across the country. 
  • Under Nyaya Bandhu, practising advocates, interested to volunteer their time and services, are connected, via mobile technology, with eligible marginalised beneficiaries.
  • In order to strengthen the Nyaya Bandhu network, the Department of Justice proposed to set up and integrate a pro bono panel of lawyers in each High Court (curated and moderated by the respective High Courts), within its Nyaya Bandhu programme. 
  • It envisages integrating the Nyaya Bandhu programme within the institutional framework of the justice system in India, so as to ensure its optimum utilization and impact.

5. PM-Yasasvi Scheme

Context:

Implementation of PM-Yasasvi Scheme.

PM-Yasasvi Scheme:

  • The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is implementing an umbrella scheme namely the PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India (PM YASASVI) for OBC and others.
  • It is a scholarship programme for eligible students.
  • This scholarship is restricted to OBC, Nomadic, and semi-Nomadic tribes, DNT. 
  • It is granted only to Indian students by the specific state/union territory to which the applicant belongs, i.e., where she/he resides. 
  • The Yasasvi Entrance Test conducted every year is used to select the applicants for the awards.
    • This written test is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
    • Class IX and XI students of the eligible categories can take this test.
  • Under the scheme, class nine students will get a stipend of Rs. 75,000 per year. Also, class 11 students will get 125,000 rupees per year.
