Context:

Army HQ issues detailed instructions for the submission of applications.

Details:

  • Consequent to the receipt of the formal Government Sanction Letter for grant of Permanent Commission (PC) to Women Officers in the Indian Army, the Army HQ is in the process of convening a Special Number 5 Selection Board for screening women officers for grant of PC.
  • Women Officers who have joined the Indian Army through the Women Special Entry Scheme (WSES) and Short Service Commission Women (SSCW) are being considered.

2. Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS)

Context:

MoD signs tripartite MoU with IIT Kanpur and Dept. of ARPG to conduct a predictive analysis of public grievances.

Details:

  • MoU signed between:
    • Ministry of Defence (MoD)
    • IIT Kanpur
    • Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG)
  • Purpose of the MoU:
    • The MoU envisages IIT Kanpur to develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to conduct exploratory and predictive analysis of Public Grievances received on the web-based Centralized Public Grievances Redress & Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) pertaining to the MoD.

3. Smart India Hackathon – 2020

Context:

Grand Finale of the fourth edition (Software) of Smart India Hackathon – 2020 concludes.

Details:

  • Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2020 is a nationwide initiative to provide students a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem-solving.
  • In SIH 2020, the students would have the opportunity to work on challenges faced within various Ministries, Departments, Industries, PSUs and NGOs to create world-class solutions for some of the top organizations including industries in the world, thus helping the Private sector hire the best minds from across the nation.
  • During the current edition of SIH, more than 240 problem statements based on 11 themes were worked upon by the participants.
  • The themes included tracking & tracing fake news, UAVs for disaster identification and alerting system, network connectivity in remote areas, etc.
  • ISRO was the largest contributor to the problem statements.
  • The 36-hour hackathon had prize money for each problem statement worth Rs. 1,00,000/-.
