Context:
Prime Minister announces ‘Vishwakarma Yojana’.
Vishwakarma Yojana:
- The scheme is planned to benefit individuals skilled in traditional craftsmanship.
- The scheme was announced by the Prime Minister on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day of the country.
- Individuals skilled in traditional craftsmanship, especially from the OBC community, such as weavers, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, laundry workers, hair-dressers, etc. are expected to benefit from the scheme.
- The outlay for the Vishwakarma scheme is Rs 13,000-15,000 crores.
- The scheme will be launched on the upcoming Vishwakarma Jayanti, on September 17, 2023.
