1. Har Ghar Jal Utsav under Jal Jeevan Mission

Syllabus: GS 2, Polity and Governance.

Prelims: Jal Jeevan Mission.

Mains: Government Policies and interventions.

Context: The Prime Minister addressed the Har Ghar Jal Utsav under Jal Jeevan Mission.

Details:

• Three major achievements were highlighted:
  • Around 10 crore rural households in the country have been connected to piped clean water facilities.
  • Goa became the first Har Ghar Jal certified state with every household being connected to piped water. The first Union Territory to get the status is Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
  • A total of one lakh villages across the country turned ODF plus.
• It was also highlighted that 7 crore rural households were connected with piped water in the period of just three years.

About Jal Jeevan Mission:

• Women, the main sufferer of the problems related to water, are at the center of the government’s efforts.
• Jal Jeevan Abhiyan is a government scheme run by the community and for the community.
• The mission has given women a key role in water governance and improved ‘Ease of Living’ for them.
• Gram Sabhas, local residents, and other local governance institutions are given an unprecedented role in the campaign.
• The local women are trained for water testing and are made members of ‘Paani Samitis’.
• The mission is synergized with schemes like MGNREGA for optimum utilization of resources.
• The mission has the potential to eliminate the possibility of any discrimination.
• Technology like geo-tagging of water assets and Internet of Things solutions for water supply and quality control is also used for powering the Jal Jeevan Mission.

2. Exercise Pitch Black

Syllabus: GS 3, Various security forces, agencies, and their mandate.

Prelims: Exercise Pitch Black.

Context: Exercise Pitch Black 2022 is scheduled to be held in Darwin, Australia.

Details:

• It is hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).
• It is held biennially. The last edition of the exercise was conducted in the year 2018 and the edition in 2020 was cancelled because of the pandemic. 
• It is a multi-national exercise.
• The focus of the exercise will be on Large Force Employment warfare. 
• The exercise will see the participation of more than 100 aircraft and around 2500 military personnel from various air forces.
• Multi-domain air combat missions will be undertaken during the exercise in a complex environment. Also, the best practices will be exchanged between the participating air forces of different nations.
