Context: Grameen Udyami Project launched in Ranchi to promote skill development and Entrepreneurship amongst the tribal youth and give a boost to Skill India Mission.

Details:

  • National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in collaboration with Yuva Vikas Society and Seva Bharti, launched the second phase of the Grameen Udyami Project.
  • It will augment skill training in tribal youth and ensure the inclusive and sustainable growth of tribal communities.
  • The objective is to multiskill India’s young population and impart functional skills for enabling livelihoods.
  • The involvement of tribal communities in the workforce, will ensure holistic development of the vulnerable group and make them self-reliant.  
  • In the first phase of the project, the tribal youth of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat were mobilized.
  • The training was provided in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh and was completed successfully in May 2022.

About Gramin Udyami Project:

  • It is a unique multiskilling project.
  • It is funded by NSDC. 
  • Its target is to train 450 tribal students in Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. 
  • The project is being implemented in 6 states: Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
  • The training will be provided for the following Job roles:
    • Electrician & Solar PV Installation Technician
    • Plumbing & Masonry
    • 2-Wheeler Repair & Maintenance
    • IT/ITES with e-Governance
    • Farm Mechanization
  • The project is implemented under Sansadiya Parisankul Yojana. 

Significance of the Project:

  • Grameen Udyami project can be a game changer for the tribal population and will provide the right opportunities for the tribal youth to stand on their feet.
  • The project will ensure the economic empowerment of the tribal population in their geographical areas.
  • The project has the potential to reduce forced migration, which is a consequence of inadequate opportunities in their respective regions.
  • It will also ensure the conservation of natural resources.
  • Owing to inadequate education and skill, organized sectors have meager contributions to tribal livelihood vis-a-vis the national average. Thus initiatives like the Grameen Udyami project are crucial for livelihood generation and the overall development of the tribal section.
