1. Integration of ODOP (One District One Product) initiative with ONDC

Context – Launch of ODOP Gift Catalogue and storefront on GeM (Government e-Marketplace)

Details

  • Shri Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister for Commerce & Industry called for the integration of ODOP with Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). This would help in bringing buyers and sellers together on a democratic platform.
  • The minister launched the ODOP gift catalogue having 300 plus products and an ODOP storefront on GeM in New Delhi.
  • ODOP is an effort to highlight the enormous potential of our country’s rich culture and tradition. India’s villages and districts are home to crores of talented craftsmen, weavers and artisans.
  • The vision of ODOP is to bring prosperity to each and every corner of the country.
  • While referring to the success of ODOP in states like Uttar Pradesh, the minister asserted that convergence or Samanvay is an important factor that would boost the success of ODOP. He further said that flagship programmes of the government like Make in India, Startup India, etc. should be converged with the vision of ODOP. He stressed the need to brand ODOP products as most are environment-friendly. He also expressed his idea for the expansion of GI-tagged products.
  • The minister proposed five agendas to make ODOP a great success-
    • An exhaustive catalogue which will act as a one-stop gifting destination for ministers, state governments, missions, etc.
    • Improvement in packaging; training & workshops should be conducted to help artisans with GeM onboarding and cataloguing. 
    • Indian missions should ensure that ODOP products receive international attention.
    • People of the country must consider gifting almost one ODOP product to friends and family during the festival.
    • The ODOP storefront on GeM which went live is to enable direct procurement of ODOP products for gifting/office use by various govt. institutions, ministries and foreign missions.

2. National Sports Day

Prelims – National Sports Day, TOPS, Major Dhyan Chand

Details – 

  • PM Shri Narendra Modi greeted sportspersons on National Sports Day. The Prime Minister also paid tributes to legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary.
  • To make India a sports hub and sports superpower, the government has initiated various schemes like Khelo India and TOPS (for requirements like diet, equipment, training, foreign exposure, etc).
  • The launch of the 2nd Fit India School quiz was also announced, and its first edition had witnessed a huge success.
  • The Sports Authority of India (SAI) also celebrated this year’s National Sports Day as a part of the FIT INDIA campaign, through pan-India sports events with the theme of Sports as an enabler for an inclusive and fit society.

About

National Sports Day is celebrated every year on 29th August. It marks the birth anniversary of legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. He was known as “The Wizard of Hockey”. He, with his team, won gold for India in the Olympics thrice.


3. Globalise to Localise

Syllabus – GS 3, Achievements of Indians in science & technology; indigenization of technology and developing new technology.

Prelims – Launch of a report titled – Globalise to Localise: Exporting at Scale & Deepening of the Ecosystem are Vital to Higher Domestic Value Addition. 

Context – Electronic Production Target of US$ 300 billion & Exports of US$ 120 by 2025-26.

Details –

  • The report titled Globalise to Localise was prepared by the India Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), in collaboration with India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA). It was launched by Shri Rajeev Chandra Sekhar, Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. The report explores how India can achieve an electronics production target of US$300 billion and exports of US$120 by 2025-26.
  • The report recommends a sequential approach that can put India’s exports on the same trajectory as China and Vietnam. The immediate goal should be to export at scale to global markets (globalise), and the subsequent objective should be to increase the share of local content (localise). The report suggests several steps and policies needed for deepening the broader electronics ecosystem within India. Also, policies such as Gati Shakti will help increase India’s competitiveness.
  • Electronics as a sector has jumped to the 6th largest export from India in 2022. Mobile phones constitute the single largest component of electronics exports from India. 

About ICRIER – Operational since 1981, it is an autonomous economic policy think tank.

About ICEA – It is the apex industry body for the mobile and electronics industry. It works in close association with government ministries to create a robust, legal, and ethical electronics industry, thereby creating an innovative market environment in the country.


4. National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA)

Syllabus – GS 3, Science and Technology – developments and their applications

Prelims – Launch of IPDMS 2.0 and Pharma Sahi Daam 2.0 Applications.

Context – Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA).

Details

  • While addressing the Silver Jubilee Celebrations, the Union Minister of Chemical and Fertilisers Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated NPPA for acting more as a facilitator and not merely a regulator. The minister emphasised the contribution of NPPA in ensuring the availability and affordability of medicines in the last 25 years.
  • The PLI 1 and PLI 2 Schemes for the industries have helped in bringing out indigenous manufacturing of many critical APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) in the country. 
  • On the occasion, Integrated Pharmaceutical Database MS 2.0 (IPDMS 2.0) and Pharma Sahi Daam 2.0 Applications were launched.
    • IPDMS 2.0 is an application developed by NPPA, and technically supported by C-DAC (Centre for Advance Computing). It would provide a single window for submissions of various forms as mandated under DPCO (Drug Price Control Order), 2013. It would also enable the paperless functioning of NPPA and facilitate the stakeholders to connect with the National Pharma Pricing Regulator from across the country.
    • There are updated features in Pharma Sahi Daam 2.0 App like speech recognition (English & Hindi), bookmarking medicine and share button. Complaints can also be launched. It will be available on both Android and iOS phones.
      • Pharma Sahi Daam App provides information to users on the prices of Scheduled medicines which are under price regulation as well as Non-Scheduled medicines.
