1. Armed Forces Flag Day

Context:

PM expresses gratitude to the Armed Forces on Flag Day.

2. Investment Promotion Award 2020

Context:

Invest India wins the Investment Promotion Award 2020 given by UNCTAD.

About the Award:

  • The award recognizes and celebrates the outstanding achievements and best practices of Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) across the globe.
  • The evaluation was based on UNCTAD’s assessment of work undertaken by 180 Investment Promotion Agencies.
  • This United Nations Investment Promotion Award is the most coveted award for Investment Promotion Agencies.
  • UNCTAD is a central agency that monitors the performance of IPAs and identifies global best practices.
  • Germany, South Korea and Singapore have been some of the past winners of the award.
  • UNCTAD highlighted good practices followed by Invest India, such as the Business Immunity Platform, Exclusive Investment Forum webinar series, its social media engagement and focus COVID response teams (such as business reconstruction, stakeholder outreach and supplier outreach) created as a response to the pandemic, in its publications.
  • Invest India has also shared long-term strategies and practices being followed for investment promotion, facilitation and retention at UNCTAD’s high-level brainstorming sessions.

About Invest India:

  • Invest India is a non-profit venture under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
  • As the national investment promotion and facilitation agency, Invest India focuses on sector-specific investor targeting and development of new partnerships to enable sustainable investments in India.
  • It was set up in 2009.

3. Recognition for two new zoos

Context:

Rajgir Zoo Safari in Nalanda, Bihar and Shaheed Ashfaque Ullah Khan Prani Udyaan in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh were granted recognition by the Central Government.

About Rajgir Zoo Safari:

  • It is located in Nalanda, Bihar.
  • The zoo is established exclusively comprising only safari enclosures which, unlike conventional enclosures, offer larger space for captive animals.
  • The zoo proposes to house lions, bears, tigers, leopards and a mixed safari of common herbivore species such as spotted deer, sambar among others.

About Shaheed Ashfaque Ullah Khan Prani Udyaan:

  • It is located in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
  • This zoo takes the total number of zoos in UP to nine.
  • The zoo features enclosures for a range of birds, herbivores and carnivores.

4. National Water Development Agency

Context:

The MoS for Jal Shakti chairs the annual general meeting of the National Water Development Agency (NWDA).

About the National Water Development Agency (NWDA):

  • The NWDA was set up in 1982 as an autonomous society to carry out the water balance and other studies on a scientific and realistic basis for optimum utilization of water resources of the peninsular river system for preparation of feasibility reports.
  • This would enable to give a concrete shape to the peninsular river development component of the national perspective plan prepared by the Central Water Commission and the then Ministry of Irrigation (now Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD& GR)).
  • In 1990, the Agency also started similar activities for the Himalayan component of the national perspective plan.
  • From 2006, the NWDA also started the task of exploring the feasibility of intra-state river links.
  • It is under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

5. LiDAR Survey technique

Context:

The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited will be adopting Light Detection and Ranging Survey (LiDAR) technique using Laser enabled equipment mounted on a helicopter for conducting a ground survey for the preparation of the detailed project report for the proposed Delhi-Varanasi HSR corridor.

Details:

  • This is for the first time that the aerial LiDAR survey technique is being adopted for any railway project in India.

6. National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA)

Context:

NADA organised a webinar on anti-doping and sports science.

About NADA:

  • NADA is the national organisation responsible for promoting, coordinating, and monitoring the doping control program in sports in all its forms in India.
  • NADA deals with adopting and implementing anti-doping rules and policies which conform with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), cooperates with other anti-doping organisations and promotes anti-doping research and education.
  • The primary objectives are to implement anti-doping rules as per WADA code, regulate dope control programme, to promote education and research and creating awareness about doping and its ill effects.
  • It was set up in 2005 and functions under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, GOI.

About the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA):

  • WADA was established in 1999 as an international independent agency composed and funded equally by the sport movement and governments of the world.
  • Its key activities include scientific research, education, development of anti-doping capacities, and monitoring of the World Anti-Doping Code (Code) – the document harmonizing anti-doping policies in all sports and all countries.
  • It strives to lead a collaborative worldwide movement for doping-free sport.
  • The Agency was established in the wake of the Lausanne Declaration on Doping in Sport.
  • WADA is a Swiss private law, not-for-profit Foundation.
  • Its seat is in Lausanne, Switzerland, and its headquarters are in Montreal, Canada.
