Details:
- National Human Rights Day is celebrated on 10 December.
- On this occasion, celebrations were organized by the National Human Rights Commission in New Delhi today.
- The event was attended by the President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu.
- The President highlighted the importance of the occasion for the whole of humankind, as it was on this day in 1948 that the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).Â
- It was also pointed out that the text of the UDHR is the most translated document as there are 500 translations available for it.
- The President said in her address that Human Rights are work in Progress across the world.
- National Human Rights Commission was commended for making the best possible efforts to spread awareness about Human rights and protecting and promomting them for 30 years.Â

2. National Institute for One Health
Syllabus: GS 2, Social Justice.
Mains: Issues related to Health.
Prelims: National Institute of one health.
Context: Inauguration of the country’s first National Institute of one health.
Details:
- Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the National Institute for One Health in Nagpur on December 11, 2022, to boost India’s health research.Â
- It is an important infrastructural milestone for India as there there is an increased interaction between humans and animals and it is also influenced by climate change. Thus, human health should not be seen in isolation. It is observed that more than half of all infections are spread by animals.Â
- The Institute will enhance the preparedness and laboratory capabilities for novel and unknown zoonotic agent identification. It will be equipped with the Bio Safety Level (BSL-IV) laboratory.
- Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Centre for Research, Management, and Control of Haemoglobinopathies considering the prevalence of Sickle Cell disease in the Vidarbha region of Central India (particularly in the tribal population). The prevalence is considerably high with an expected carrier frequency of 35% in certain groups.
- This medical centre is dedicated to haemoglobinopathies, β-thalassemia syndromes, and sickle cell disease.
- Haemoglobinopathies are inherited disorders of haemoglobin.Â

3. Swahid Diwas
Syllabus: GS 1, Indian History.
Mains: Assam Movement.
Prelims: Swahid Diwas.
Details:
- The martyrdom day(10th December) of Khargeswar Talukdar, the first martyr of the Assam Movement in 1979 is observed as the Swahid Diwas.Â
- It is commemorated to pay the tribute to the martyrs of the Assam movement.
- The Assam movement took place for six long years from 1979 to 1985. The people of Assam participated in the movement to protect the state from illegal immigrants. In this endeavour, 860 martyrs gave their ultimate sacrifice while protecting the unity and integrity of India.
- The Assam movement was a watershed moment in the context of the history of student movements across the world.
