1. International Mother Language Day

Prelims: International Mother Language Day

Context:

The Ministry of Culture commenced a two-day event today on the occasion of International Mother Language Day.

International Mother Language Day:

  • International Mother Language Day is observed worldwide on 21st February every year.
  • Aim: It aims to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism.
  • Theme of 2022:“Using technology for multilingual learning: Challenges and opportunities”.
  • Background:
    • The idea to celebrate International Mother Language Day first came from
    • It was approved at the 1999 UNESCO General Conference and has been observed throughout the world since 2000.

2. Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate

Syllabus: GS3:Science and Technology:Achievements of Indians in science & technology; indigenization of technology

Prelims:  Facts about Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate

Context: 

The Ministry of Culture will organize commemorative exhibitions at 75 locations portraying 75 years of India’s achievements in science and technology as part of ‘Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate’.

Vigyan Sarvatara Pujyate:

  • Vigyan Sarvatara Pujyate is a week-long Festival of SCoPE (Science Communication Popularisation Extension) being celebrated during Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
  • The ‘Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate’ aims to attract students towards scientific knowledge of articles of daily use and propagating scientific theories.
  • The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) is an important partner in the Vigyan Sarvatara Pujyate.
    • NCSM is an autonomous society under the Ministry of Culture.
    • NCSM forms the largest network of science centers and museums in the world under a single administrative umbrella.
  • Agencies involved:
    • Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology, CSIR, DRDO and other ministries
    • the Ministry of Culture.
    • Vigyan Prasar, an autonomous organization of DST with a mandate to promote science communication in the country, is the coordinating agency.

3. Exercise Eastern Bridge -VI

Syllabus: GS3:Science and Technology: Defence exercise

Prelims:  Exercise Eastern Bridge -VI

Context: 

The Indian Air Force (IAF) and Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) are scheduled to participate in a bilateral exercise named Eastern Bridge-VI.

Exercise Eastern Bridge -VI:

  • Exercise Eastern Bridge -VI is the sixth edition of the exercise between India and Oman.
  • Aim: To provide an opportunity to enhance operational capability and interoperability between the two Air Forces.

4. Agriculture with New Perspective of Atma Nirbhar North East-Initiative of NERCRMS

Syllabus: GS3:Economy: marketing of agricultural produce and issues and related constraints;

Prelims: North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Society (NERCRMS)

Context:

The North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Society (NERCRMS) organized a training programme for spice growers.

  • The NERCRMS training programme was organized at the Patkai Hills, Deomali, Tirap, Arunachal Pradesh.
    • Deomali hamlet is located in the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh, where most people are engaged in agriculture.

North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Society (NERCRMS):

  • NERCORMP is a livelihood and rural development project aimed to transform the lives of the poor and marginalized tribal families in North East(NE) India.
  • It is a registered society under the aegis of NEC under the Ministry of DoNER.
  • NERCORMP is a joint developmental initiative of the North Eastern Council(NEC), Ministry of DoNER, Govt. of India and the International Fund for Agricultural Development(IFAD).

5. Lavender designated as Doda brand product, Doda is the birthplace of India’s Purple Revolution (Aroma Mission), says Dr Jitendra Singh

Syllabus: GS3: Economy: marketing of agricultural produce and issues and related constraints;

Prelims: Purple Revolutions and Aroma Mission

Context: –

Highlights of District Development Coordination & Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meetings of Doda and Kishtwar districts.

Significant points from the meeting:

  • Lavender has been designated as a Doda brand product.
  • Doda is the birthplace of India’s Purple Revolution (Aroma Mission).
  • Khilani – Goha – Sudhmahadev National highway will become functional in district Doda.
  • Similarly, Rattle Project, Pakkal-Dul project and Kiru project make the entire region Power-surplus.
