1. G-20’s First Infrastructure Working Group Meeting

Prelims: G20 Infrastructure Working Group Meeting

Context: G-20’s First Infrastructure Working Group Meeting will be held in Pune on the 16th and 17th of January 2023.

Details:

  • The first G-20 Infrastructure Working Group (IWG) meeting under the Presidency of India is scheduled in Pune on 16th-17th January 2023. 
  • The meeting will bring together the IWG member countries, guest countries, and international organizations to deliberate on the 2023 Infrastructure Agenda. The Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance will host the forum along with Australia and Brazil as the co-chairs.
  • The group will discuss various aspects of infrastructure investments, like developing infrastructure as an asset class, encouraging quality infrastructure investment, and identifying innovative solutions for mobilizing financial resources.
  • The flagship priority of the meeting is to discuss the “Financing Cities of Tomorrow: Inclusive, Resilient and Sustainable”. It will focus on several facets like making cities economic centres of growth, constructing future-ready urban infrastructure, financing infrastructure,  directing fiscal investments for unlocking private financing for energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable infrastructure, and mitigating social inequalities.
  • The theme of India’s G20 Presidency is ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’.
  • The Ministry of Finance will guide the G20 Infrastructure agenda to ensure that the G-20 acts as a global prime mover in envisioning new ideas and accelerating collective action.

2. Geospatial Hackathon

Syllabus: GS 3, Science and Technology.

Mains: Science and Technology- developments and their applications.

Prelims: Geospatial hackathon.

Context: Launch of Geospatial Hackathon.

Details:

  • Geospatial Hackathon was launched to promote Innovation and StartUps in India’s Geospatial ecosystem.
  • It was highlighted that India is on the cusp of the Geospatial Revolution and a healthy synergy between Government, Industry, and Scientific Community will give a tremendous boost to the economic output of the country.
  • The hackathon will serve as a formal Launchpad for India’s geospatial strategy and make India a global leader in the geospatial sector in times to come and become Atmanirbhar.
  • It was emphasized that with the launch of the National geospatial policy, India is promoting ease of doing business in the geospatial sector.
  • The Hackathon will end on 10th March 2023. It will have Two Sets of Challenges Research Challenge and a Startp-Up Challenge.
