Context – India reiterates its position as a resilient economy at World Economic Forum (WEF), 2023.
Details –
- India has reiterated its position as a resilient economy providing stable policy to the global investors at WEF, 2023, Davos.Â
- India’s focus areas at WEF, 2023 are investment opportunities, infrastructural landscape and its inclusive and sustainable growth story.
- The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has taken the initiative to strengthen India’s presence through three lounges which focus on investment opportunity, sustainability, and inclusive approach to further growth.Â

- India lounge at Promenade 49-At this lounge India showcases its new and emerging technologies to address climate change issues. India would be showcasing these technologies through five broad themes-Â
- Energy Sector
- Natural Resource Management

- Food and Nutritional SecurityÂ
- Circular Economy
- The state lounges of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Telangana along with business lounges of HCL, Wipro, TCS and Infosys have added to the strength of India’s presence on Davos promenade.

- The World Economic Forum (WEF) is an international non-governmental organisation based in Geneva, Switzerland.
- The WEF annual meeting in Davos (Switzerland) engages the world’s top leaders to shape global, regional, and industry agendas.
-  The 53rd edition of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting started on January 16, 2023 in Davos, switzerland. It will continue till January 20. The theme for this year’s WEF is ‘Cooperation in a Fragmented World’.Â

Prelims – Saansad Khel Mahakumbh
Context – The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi virtually inaugurates the second phase of Saansad Khel Mahakumbh, 2022-23 in Bast District.
About –
- Saansad Khel Mahakumb has been organised in Basti district, Uttar Pradesh by Shri Harish Dwivedi, Member of Parliament from Basti since 2021.
- The first phase of the Khel Mahakumbh was organised from 10th to 16th December 2022 and the second phase of the Khel Mahakumbh is scheduled from 18th to 28th January 2023.
- Various competitions in both indoor and outdoor sports – kabbadi, hockey, badminton, table tennis, kho-kho, football etc are being organised during the Khel Mahakumbh. Essay writing, painting, rangoli making are also organised during the Khel Mahakumbh.Â
- The Khel mahakumbh provides a platform for the youth of District Basti and neighbouring regions to showcase their sporting talent and encourage them to take sports as their career. It also instils in them the spirit of sportsmanship, inculcates discipline, self- confidence and nationalism.
Details –
- Shri Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the second phase of Saansad khel Mahakumbh, 2022-23 and appreciated its scale. He informed that about 200 Parliamentarians have organised such Khel Mahakumbh in their constituencies.
- Various initiatives have been taken by the government to promote sports in the country -about 500 Olympics probables are being groomed under Target Olympics Podium Scheme (TOPS). Through Khelo India financial assistance of 50,000 per month is also being provided to 2500 athletes. More than one thousand Khelo India district centres are being set up across the country out of which more than 750 of these centres have been completed. Also efforts are being made to provide national level training at the local level.

Context – Third meeting of Steering Committee (SC-KBLP) of Ken Betwa Link Project.
Details –
- The Ken Betwa River Linking  Project is critical for the water security and socio-economic development of Bundelkhand region.
- During the meeting, two wildlife sanctuaries namely Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary and Rani Durgawati Wildlife Sanctuary of Madhya Pradesh and Ranipur Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttar Pradesh have been approved by the state government for bringing them under project Tiger.
- The committee was informed that orders for transfer or about 5480 ha of non-forest government land of Panna and Chhatarpur Districts of Madhya Pradesh have been issued by the state government for transfer to Panna Tiger Reserve (PTR) for compensatory afforestation..
- For implementation of the Landscape Management Plan (LMP) and Environment Management Plan (EMP) of the project, a Greater Panna Landscape council is also being constituted.
