1. Indian Cooperative Congress

Context:

17th Indian Cooperative Congress held in New Delhi.

Details:

  • The 17th Indian Cooperative Congress is being organized on 1-2 July 2023 with the objective to discuss various trends in the cooperative movement, showcase best practices being adopted, deliberate challenges being faced and chalk out future policy direction for the growth of India’s cooperative movement. 
  • The theme for the Indian Cooperative Congress 2023 is “Amrit Kaal: Prosperity through Cooperation for a Vibrant India”.
  • The Indian Cooperative Congress is the highest forum of India’s cooperative movement.

2. Chartered Accountants’ Day

Syllabus: Miscellaneous

Prelims: Chartered Accountants’ Day

Context:

1 July is observed as National Chartered Accountants’ Day.

About Chartered Accountants’ Day:

  • The day marks the formation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
  • The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament, the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 for regulating the profession of Chartered Accountancy in the country. 
  • The Institute functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

3. Lausanne Diamond League 2023

Prelims: Lausanne Diamond League

Context:

Neeraj Chopra wins the Lausanne Diamond League 2023. 

Diamond League:

  • The Diamond League is a prestigious annual international athletics series consisting of various track and field events held across different cities around the world.
  • It was started in 2010 and is conducted by the World Athletics body. 
  • The top athletes of the world compete in this league. 
  • The first Indian to win a Diamond League title is javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra when he won the men’s javelin event at Zurich in 2022.
  • In the Lausanne Diamond League 2023, Chopra won the javelin event with a throw of 87.66m.

4. India – France Maritime Partnership Exercise

Prelims: India – France Maritime Partnership Exercise

Mains: India – France relations

Context:

The navies of India and France engaged in a Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPE) off the coast of Vishakhapatnam in June 2023.

Details:

  • The participating vessels from India were:
    • INS Rana – a guided missile destroyer
    • INS Sumedha – an indigenously built offshore patrol vessel 
  • The exercises included tactical manoeuvres, replenishment at sea (RAS) approaches, air defence against fighter aircraft and cross-deck helicopter operations. 
  • The French participating ship was FS Surcouf.
  • The MPX culminated with a customary farewell steam past between the ships reaffirming the close friendship between the two navies.

5. National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission

Syllabus: GS-2, Government policies and interventions for development in various sectors and issues arising out of their design and implementation.

Mains: Various government schemes in the health sector, Issues facing the tribal population in India

Context:

PM launched the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission in Madhya Pradesh.

About the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission:

  • The mission aims to improve the care of all Sickle Cell Disease patients for a better future and to lower the prevalence of the disease through a multi-faced coordinated approach towards screening and awareness strategies.
  • The larger goal is to eliminate sickle cell disease as a public health problem in India before 2047.
  • The overall aim is to enable access to affordable and quality health care to all SCD patients and to lower the prevalence through awareness, change of practices and screening interventions.
  • Objectives of the Mission:
    • Provision of affordable and accessible care to all SCD patients
    • To ensure quality care for SCD patients
    • To reduce the prevalence of SCD
  • The program shall be carried out in a mission mode covering the entire population from zero to 18 years of age and shall incrementally include the entire population up to 40 years as a part of the National Health Mission.
  • The mission shall focus on universal population-based screening, prevention, and management of sickle cell anaemia in all tribal and other high-prevalent areas States/UTs of India. 
  • The initial focus will be on the 17 states with a high prevalence of sickle cell anaemia namely, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar and Uttarakhand.
  • The mission entails:
    • Increasing awareness about the disease
    • Implementing mass screening activities for early identification
    • Building a strong network of diagnosis and linkages
    • Implementing a robust monitoring system
    • Strengthening the existing primary health care mechanism to incorporate SCD-related strategies
    • Capacity building of primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare teams
    • Creating cost-effective intensive interventions at higher care facilities

6. Industrial Park Rating System

Syllabus: GS-3, Indian Economy and issues relating to planning, mobilization, of resources, growth, development and employment.

Prelims: Industrial Park Rating System, DPIIT

Mains: Industrial parks in India, challenges and measures thereof

Context:

DPIIT organized a national workshop on Industrial Park Rating System.

About the Industrial Park Rating System (IPRS):

  • This is a major initiative of the DPIIT.
  • IPRS 2.0 was launched in 2021 and it rates industrial parks across four pillars: 
    • Internal infrastructure and utilities
    • External infrastructure and facilities
    • Business support services
    • Environmental and safety management
  • IPRS 2.0 was developed with the following objectives:
    • To improve industrial infrastructure
    • Support the Ease of Doing Business reform agenda of providing transparent information
    • Enable states to showcase their strengths and promote investment in the state industrial ecosystem
    • Benchmark and identify gaps to structure interventions
    • Recognize best practices and promote competition among parks
    • Help industries to identify suitable investment destinations through a single platform

7. Goods and Services Tax (GST) Day

Context:

The 6th Goods and Services Tax (GST) Day observed.

Details:

  • Goods and Services Tax (GST) Day is celebrated on 1 July every year
