1. SAMARTH Programme

Syllabus: GS-2, Government policies and interventions for development in various sectors and issues arising out of their design and implementation.

Prelims: SAMARTH Scheme

Context:

43 new implementing partners empanelled under SAMARTH; additional training target of 75,000 beneficiaries.

About SAMARTH:

  • SAMARTH is a demand-driven and placement-oriented umbrella skilling programme of the Ministry of Textiles formulated under the broad skilling policy framework adopted by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.
  • It aims to incentivize and supplement the efforts of the industry in creating jobs in the organized textile and related sectors. 
  • It provides entry-level skilling, upskilling and re-skilling programmes towards improving the productivity of the existing workers in apparel & garments segments. 
  • SAMARTH also caters to the upskilling/re-skilling requirement of traditional textile sectors such as handloom, handicraft, silk and jute.

2. Scheme under NIRBHAYA Fund for POCSO Victims

Context:

Scheme of Women and Child Development Ministry under Nirbhaya Fund for Critical Care and Support to POCSO victims.

Details of the scheme:

  • Under Nirbhaya Fund, a scheme for critical care and support for accessing justice to rape gang rape survivors and minor girls who get pregnant was appraised at a total cost of Rs.74.10 cr. 
  • The scheme aims at providing shelter, food & daily needs, safe transportation for attending court hearings and legal aid to the minor girls who have been abandoned by their family due to forced pregnancy, either due to rape/gang rape or due to any other reason, and have no other means to support themselves.
  • Objectives of the scheme are:
    • To provide integrated support and assistance to girl child victims under one roof and
    • To facilitate immediate, emergency and non-emergency access to a range of services including access to education, police assistance, medical (also comprising maternity, neo-natal and infant care), psychological and mental counselling legal support and insurance cover for the girl child victim and her new-born under one roof to enable access to justice and rehabilitation of such girl child victims.
  • All girls under the age of 18 who are victims under various sections of the POCSO Act and who are orphans, abandoned by family or wish to stay away from their families are eligible under the scheme.

3. IFSCA and Climate Policy Initiative sign MoU

Prelims: IFSCA, CPI

Context:

International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) and Climate Policy Initiative signed an MoU to cooperate on sustainable finance.

Details:

  • The MoU is for mutual assistance and cooperation to increase the mobilisation of global sustainable capital flows into India.
  • With the combined expertise of the IFSCA and the CPI, the MoU envisages research and joint convenings in the field of sustainable finance.

About Climate Policy Initiative (CPI):

  • It is an analysis and advisory organization with expertise in finance and policy.
  • It supports governments, businesses, and financial institutions to drive economic growth while addressing climate change.
  • CPI has six offices around the world in Brazil, India, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

4. Ker Puja

Syllabus: GS-1, Art & Culture

Prelims: Ker Puja

Context:

PM greeted the people of Tripura on the occasion of Ker Puja.

What is Ker Puja?

  • It is a festival held in Tripura usually in the month of August.
  • It occurs two weeks after the Kharchi Puja to honour the deity Ker (a guardian deity of the Vastu Devata).
  • During Ker Puja, entrances to Agartala (Tripura’s capital) are closed to create a protected area. 
  • People are not permitted to light fires, dance, sing or wear shoes.
