1. SemiconIndia 2023

Mains: India’s Semiconductor industry

Context:

The Prime Minister inaugurated SemiconIndia 2023 at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

SemiconIndia 2023:

  • The ‘SemiconIndia 2023’ is being organised by the India Semiconductor Mission in partnership with industry and industry associations.
  • The objective of the conference is to make India a global hub for Semiconductor Design, Manufacturing and Technology Development which will help propel the vision of India Semiconductor Mission.
  • The theme of the Conference is ‘Catalysing India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem’.

2. Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana

Syllabus: GS-2, Govt Schemes

Prelims: Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana

Context:

New products & nutraceuticals added Under Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana.

Details:

  • Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), the implementing agency of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) added new products to their basket.
  • The PMBI regularly analyses various trends of the market and based on the analysis, includes medicines and other products to sell through these Kendras at affordable prices. 
  • A total of 9512 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been opened across the country till 30th June 2023.
  • The Government has decided to open 10,000 more Jan Aushadhi Kendras by the end of 2023.
  • The product basket of PMBJP has 1800 medicines, 285 Surgical Equipment and Consumables. 
  • The products are offered at 50 – 90% lower prices than the market price.

3. INDIA STACK

Context:

India signed an MoU with Papua New Guinea on sharing INDIA STACK.

Details:

  • The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeIT) and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) of Papua New Guinea signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on sharing INDIA STACK i.e., successful digital solutions implemented at population scale.
  • Indiastack.global
    • It is a global repository of key projects implemented under India Stack like Aadhaar, UPI, Digilocker, Cowin Vaccination Platform, Government e-Marketplace (GeM), DIKSHA Platform and Ayushman Bharat Digital Health Mission. 
    • It is expected to help position India as the leader in building Digital Transformation projects at a population scale, and prove to be of immense help to other countries which are looking for such technology solutions.

4. World Nature Conservation Day

Syllabus: GS-3, Environment and Ecology

Prelims: World Nature Conservation Day

Context:

28 July is observed as World Nature Conservation Day.

About World Nature Conservation Day:

  • It is a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of preserving and conserving natural resources and the environment.
  • It serves as a reminder of the need to protect and sustainably manage the Earth’s ecosystems and biodiversity for the well-being of current and future generations.
  • The theme for the year 2023 is “Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet”.

5. Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)

Syllabus: GS-3, Environment and Ecology

Prelims: Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), CAQM

Context:

CAQM announces revision of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

The key changes/revisions in the GRAP schedule include the following:

  • Stage I – ‘Poor’ Air Quality (DELHI AQI ranging between 201-300)
    • Strictly enforce NGT/SC’s order on overaged diesel/petrol vehicles and as per extant statutes.
  • Stage II – ‘Very Poor’ Air Quality (DELHI AQI ranging between 301-400)
    • Ensure focused and targeted action for abatement of air pollution in all identified hotspots in NCR. Intensify remedial measures for the predominant sector(s) contributing to adverse air quality in each of such hotspots.
  • Stage II – ‘Very Poor’ Air Quality (DELHI AQI ranging between 301-400)
    • Regulated operations of DG sets across all sectors in the NCR including Industrial, Commercial, Residential and Office establishments, etc.
  • Stage III – ‘Severe’ Air Quality (DELHI AQI ranging between 401-450)
    • NCR State Govts. / GNCTD to impose strict restrictions on plying of BS III petrol and BS IV diesel LMVs (4 wheelers) in Delhi and in the districts of Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar. 
    • State Govts. in NCR and GNCTD may take a decision on discontinuing physical classes in schools for children up to Class V and conducting classes in an online mode.  
  • Stage IV – ‘Severe +’ Air Quality (DELHI AQI > 450)
    • Do not permit LCVs registered outside Delhi, other than EVs / CNG / BS-VI diesel, to enter Delhi, except those carrying essential commodities / providing essential services.
    • NCR State Govts. and GNCTD may take a decision on discontinuing physical classes even for classes VI – IX, class XI and conduct lessons in an online mode.
    • State Governments may consider additional emergency measures like closure of colleges/ educational institutions and closure of non‑emergency commercial activities, permitting running of vehicles on odd-even basis of registration numbers, etc.

6. Parkachik Glacier

Syllabus: GS-2, Geography

Prelims: Parkachik Glacier, Glacial retreat, Glaciers

Context:

Three new lakes may form in Parkachik Glacier in Ladakh due to glacial retreat.

Details:

  • According to a study, the Parkachik Glacier in Ladakh is likely to have three lakes of different dimensions due to subglacial over-deepening, a characteristic of basins and valleys eroded by glaciers.
  • Study conducted by – Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, an autonomous institute under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), GoI.
  • Considering their sensitivity and as a most direct and apparent visible indicator of regional climate change, Himalayan glaciers have been subjected to numerous studies, from field-based investigations to the modern state-of-the-art remote sensing approach, for more than a century.
